[volume] (Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, March 11, 1916, Image 2 Venerable Citizen Mourned. - "Let the bell toll; another noble soul has crossed the Stygian river." Jerome Landry, a venerable and highly esteemed citizen of the first ward, died at his home near Modeste Tuesday morning at the age of 73 years, and his remains were consigned to their last resting place Wednesday forenoon, following services at the St. Francis of Assisium church in Smoke Bend. Deceased was a veteran of the civil war, having served with gallantry and distinction as a member of Co. H, 28th Louisiana Regiment, and his body was interred in the tomb of Major Victor Maurin Camp No. 38, U. C. V., in the local Catholic cemetery. Although poor in wordly wealth and of humble station in life, he was richly endowed with the virture's and qualities that make up nature's noblemen, and stood high in the esteem and affection of his friends and neighbors. He and his good wife, who is left to mourn his loss, reared five children not their own, of whom one, Miss Zulma Landry, remains to comfort the aged widow in her desolation.
