Death of Adolphe Maurin. - At half-past one o'clock Monday afternoon Mr. Adolphe 
Maurin died at his residence in this town, of softening of the brain. Deceased 
was 58 years of age, a native of Donaldsonville, and lived here all his life. He 
was formerly one of the leading local merchants, having kept a store where the 
Railroad coffee-house building now stands, but he retired from business over 
twenty-years ago, and has since walked the quiet paths of private life. He was 
unmarried, of retiring habits, mixing but little in the society of his 
acquaintances or friends; a man who had studied hard and read much, and 
possessed a remarkable faculty for retaining the knowledge with which his mind 
was stored during the half century of his existence. Mr. Maurin lived in 
comfortable circumstances, having acquired considerable property. Before the war 
he was reputed to be worth about $30,000. For the past two years his health had 
been failing, and in March last when the news flew about town that Mr. Victor 
Maurin had been stricken down with heart disease, many supposed that it was 
Adolphe who had died; and when they found that this supposition was wrong, 
marveled that death should have taken the younger and more robust of the 
brothers first.

The funeral took place Tuesday morning at 10 1/2 o'clock, and the body was 
interred in the Catholic cemetery. Deceased was an honorary member of Ascension 
Hook and Ladder Company, which organization attended the funeral in uniform, six 
of the members acting as pall bearers.
