Melancon Passes Away. - Mrs. Victorin Melancon, a native and life- time resident of Ascension parish, died at her home on the east bank of the river in the fifth ward at 1:20 o'clock Thursday morning, after an illness of nearly four years' duration, aged 77 years, 5 months and 18 days. She was the widow of the late V. Melancon, for many years chief sugar-boiler of the Godchaux Company's big Reserve refinery in St. John parish, and was a woman of strong character and lovable disposition - a true Christian in the highest sense of the term. The circle of her devoted admirers and affectionate friends included all who had the good fortune to know her, and her place in the hearts of those she leaves behind will long remain unfilled. The funeral took place Friday forenoon, the cortege leaving the family residence, one mile and a half above Darrow, at 8 o'clock, and arriving at the Catholic cemetery after impressive services at the church and grave. Mrs. Melancon is survived by one son, Justice of the Peace Leo Melancon, and a daughter, Mrs. August Landry, both highly esteemed residents of the Darow community. To them profound sympathy is extended in the hour of their affliction.
