Creamer marykcreamer@yahoo.com November 5, 2023, 12:44 am A SAD DEATH. Young Stanislaus Michel Drowned in Attempting to Swim Across a Pond. Master Stanislaus Michel, the promising young son of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Michel, of Faulbourg LaPipe, was drowned this morning at 4:30 a.m. whilst smiming [sic] across a pond lying between the old and new levees opposite the residence of his parents. The body has been recovered and the funeral will take place tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock at the Catholic church. Young Michel was out early this morning bent on catching shrimps, and thinking that better fishing grounds could be found near the old levee attempted to swim across when he was seized with cramps when half way. His brother, Laurent, who had proceeded him on horseback, at once rushed to his rescue, but the unfortunate lad had already sank into his watery grave. His body was fished out shortly afterwards by Mr. Paul Dugas and others. As there are or four or five feet of water at that place where the young man was drowned, the natural inference is that young Stanislaus was taken with cramps. The TIMES extends its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved parents.
