(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, December 07, 1912, page 4 Port Barrow Youth Fatally Crushed by Train. - While a Texas and Pacific locomotive was switching coal cars on the West Kentucky Coal Company's spur in Port Barrow last Saturday afternoon, Alvin Mollere, aged eight years, who was sitting on the end of one of the cars for a ride, lost his balance and fell under the wheels, being horribly mangled before the train could be stopped. The unfortunate lad's right arm was crushed, both hands were badly lacerated and his right knee entirely denuded. The railroad surgeon, Dr.E. K. Sims, was summoned, and upon his instructions the injured youth was placed aboard the 8:22 a. m. Texas and Pacific train Sunday and sent to the Charity Hospital in New Orleans, accompanied by a trained nurse. An operation to remove the crushed arm at the shoulder was successfully performed by the hospital surgeons, but the patient was unable to withstand the shock, and at 12:45 o'clock Monday morning he passed away. The remains were brought to Donaldsonville on the Limited Monday afternoon, and after church services were interred in the local Catholic cemetery. Young Mollere was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis A. Mollere, of Port Barrow, and was a manly and promising little fellow. The terrible accident which cost him his life is deeply deplored, and profound sympathy is extended to the heartbroken parents and other relatives.
