Clement Mire - After an illness which extended through a period of four years, Mrs. J. Clement Mire, nee Eugenie Poirrier, passed away at her husband's home on Union plantation, near Plaquemine, at 12:05 o'clock p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, aged fifty-six years. Her remains were brought to Donaldsonville the following day on the 2:08 p.m. Texas and Pacific train and were laid to rest in the local Catholic cemetery, after impressive services at Ascension Church. Mrs. Mire was the wife of J.Clement Mire, inventor of the well-known cane loader which bears his name, and formerly connected with the Belle Helene Planting and Manufacturing Company in the capacity of field manager of one of their places in the sixth ward of this parish. For the past two years Mr. Mire has been filling the position of manager of the Gay Company's Union plantation in Iberville Parish. Besides her husband, Mrs. Mire is survived by two daughters, Misses Ophie and Clay Mire; one son, Emmett Mire; one sister, Mrs. D. Variani, of this city, and three brothers, Camille Poirrier, also of Donaldsonville, Emile Poirrier, of Burton, and Desire Poirrier, of Smoke Bend.
