A Mr. Norwood who took passage on board the steamer Jewel, Saturday evening the 
18th inst., at New Orleans, was taken suddenly ill and died before the boat 
reached Donaldsonville. The Capt. Wm. Gillen, landed the steamer here and waited 
until a coffin was procured. Mr. Norwood was a resident of Plaquemine, and at the 
time he boarded the steamer was, apparently, in good health. His family was with 
him.
