(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871 - current, July 06, 1912, Image 5 Dies from Kick of Horse. - Desire Poirrier, a well-known resident of Smoke Bend, died at his home in that settlement at 12:55 o'clock last Monday morning, from the effects of injuries sustained by being kicked in the abodomen (sic) by a horse. The accident occurred June 24. Mr. Poirrier had gone to the cistern in his yard to get a bucket of water, and was passing behind a horse belonging to a neighbor, Florian Arceneaux, when the animal became excited and commenced kicking. One of the hoofs struck Mr. Poirrier in the abdomen, causing internal injuries of the intestines, from which general peritonitis resulted. Deceased was fifty years of age, and had resided in this parish all his life. He is survived by two brothers, Messrs. Camille Poirrier, of the city, and Emile Poirrier, of St. James, and one sister, Mrs. Dominique Variani, of Donaldsonville. The funeral took place at 5 o'clock Monday afternoon, with services at the St. Francis of Assisium Catholic church in Smoke Bend, and interment in the local Catholic cemetery.
