(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, January 18, 1908, page 3 Death of Jean Baptiste Rateau. - Jean Baptiste Rateau, a native of France, but a resident of this parish for nearly half a century, died at his home on the west bank of the Mississippi river, about two miles below Donaldsonville, at midnight of Wednesday, the 15th inst., aged eighty-two years. The funeral took place at 4 o'clock p. m. Thursday, interment being made in the local Catholic cemetery after services at the Church of the Sacred Heart. Mr. Rateau was engaged in the mercantile business in the fourth ward of this parish for upwards of forty-five years, retiring about eight years ago. He enjoyed the esteem and respect of all with whom he came into contact, and the announcement of his demise was received with genuine sorrow among his wide circle of friends and acquaintances in this community and elsewhere. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. P. A. LeBlanc of New Orleans, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.
