Rateau. - Mrs. Jean Baptiste Rateau, nee Maria Solon, died at 11:45 o'clock last Sunday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Truxillo, in lower Ascension, at the age of seventy-five years, eight months and three days. Mrs. Rateau was a native of Bordeaux, France, but had resided in this parish for nearly half a century, having come to Ascension in the early sixties to assume possession of the Lacroix plantation in the fourth ward, which she inherited from a relative. Mrs. Rateau's husband, to whom she was married in France prior to coming to this country, preceded her to the grave some three years ago. Her surviving relatives include eight grandchildren, Marie, Marguerite, Jeanne, Isabelle, Maurice and Robert LeBlanc, of New Orleans, and Misses Marie and Celine Rateau, of lower Ascension, and one nephew, Joseph Rateau, of New Orleans. The funeral took place Monday after-noon, services being held in the Catholic church in this city at 4:30 o'clock, followed by interment in the family tomb in the Catholic cemetery.
