REDDINGTON - At Donaldsonville, La., on Friday, Sept. 25, 1885, at 1 o'clock P.M., MARY FAHEY, wife of Patrick Reddington, aged 24 years, 9 months and 25 days. Mrs. Reddington had been an invalid for months prior to her death and it had long been known to her husband and friends that there was little ground to base a hope of recovery upon. Afflicted with that incurable disease, consumption, all that human skill could do was to prolong her life somewhat and alleviate the sufferings it was powerless to eradicate entirely. Deceased was a native of New Orleans and was married to Mr. Reddington in that city on the 26th of December, 1880, moving to Donaldsonville immediately afterwards and residing here the remainder of her life. Besides a bereaved husband, she leaves two sweet little children - Celia, aged 3 years, and Willie, aged 14 months - fortunately too young to appreciate the great loss they have sustained by the death of an affectionate and devoted mother. Mrs. Reddington bore her sufferings with much fortitude and Christian resignation, and when her last hour arrived she was perfectly conscious of her condition and ready to go, bidding her husband, babes and friends a touching farewell as her gentle spirit prepared to wing its flight to a brighter and happier sphere, where sickness and sorrow are unknown. The funeral took place this afternoon and a large coucourse [sic] of people followed the remains to the Catholic Church and thence to the tomb in the cemetery back of the church, the drizzling rain that fell during the afternoon not deterring a host of sympathizing friends from paying their last respects to the memory of the deceased. The solemn services of the Catholic ritual were conducted by Rev. Father Dubernard, and the invocation of requiescat in pace awoke a response in the hearts of all present. To our friend and neighbor Mr. Reddington we extend our deepest sympathy and trust that he and his babes will find in future prosperity and good fortune compensation for the loss of the estimable wife and mother who has been taken from them by death.
