Mr. Severin Richard, the old and popular colored citizen of Donaldsonville whose 
long and severe illness was mentioned in the CHIEF some weeks ago, died last 
Wednesday, at the age of 60 years. His original disease became complicated with an 
attack of varioloid [sic], and his system, weakened by protracted suffering, was 
unable to withstaed [sic] the aggravated strain. He bore an excellent character 
and was respected by all who knew him.
