E. Raymond, a well-known negro physician of Darrow, died Saturday, Sept. 30, at 7 p. m., aged 75 years. During slavery times he was owned by Jean Baptiste Gaudin, otherwise known as "Demarest" Gaudin, and after being released from servitude fought in the civil war as a member of the crew of the United States steamship Keneo. He had practiced medicine among the negro residents of the Darrow community for a long number of years, and enjoyed the respect and confidence of the white people as well as the members of his own race. Law-abiding and unassuming, he knew his place and how to keep it, and at all times comported himself as a good citizen and set an admirable example to the negroes of his neighborhood. His funeral took place Monday afternoon, Oct. 2, at 3 o'clock, with services at the Ebenezer Baptist church in Darrow.
