[volume] (Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, July 24, 1875, Image 3 DROWNED. - About 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon Manuel John Richard, a colored boy 9 years of age, fell into the Bayou Lafourche from the ferry boat at the Gomez crossing, two miles below Donaldsonville, and was drowned. He was aiding the ferry-man in pulling the boat across the bayou, when the rope slipped from the pulleys and threw the boy into the water. He went down feet first and is supposed to have come up under the boat, as the body did not make its appearance until an hour or so after the accident. The Coroner held and inquest.
