DOMINIQUE SAVOIA CLAIMED BY DEATH

Dominique Savoia, a well-known Italian merchant of this city, passed away at his 
home in Railroad avenue, last Tuesday afternoon at 12:15 o'clock, after an 
illness of three months, aged 59 years and 11 months. His death was due to 
dropsy. A few weeks ago, when Mr. Savoia became alarmingly ill he was conveyed 
to New Orleans for treatment at the hands of specialists, but it seems that all 
efforts to arrest the progress of the disease proved of no avail, and it was 
realized that his condition was hopeless and that the end could not be long 
deferred. He was brought back home last week and sank steadily until death came 
to his relief.

Deceased was a native of Italy and a resident of this city for the past 38 
years. He was a successful merchant; esteemed by his countrymen and was highly 
respected by all those who knew him in this community. His death has proven a 
shock to his relatives and many friends.

The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon and was largely attended. Services 
were held at the Ascension Catholic church at 3 o'clock, following which the 
remains were laid to rest in the family tomb in the Catholic cemetery. The 
floral offerings were many and beautiful.

Deceased is survived by his wife, who is Miss Marie Baccala before her marriage. 
He also leaves one brother, Bruno Savoia, merchant of Churchville; two nephews, 
Rocco and Charles Savoia of this city, and eigheen (sic) neices (sic).
