DIED. - SCHENCK. - At his residence, in the town of Bayou Sara, La., Monday evening, May 10, 1880, Prof. C. F. SCHENCK, a native of Darmstadt, Germany, aged 31 years, 3 months and 15 days. New Orleans papers please copy. And thou art gone, my dear, kind friend! Gone from this world of sin and misery! Gone from this world of woe and care! Gone to the realms of joy and felicity, leaving behind the evanescent and deceptive hopes, the falsity, deceit and treachery of a cold, pitiless sphere. it is a task fraught with greatest agony to me, to pen these simple lines in memory of you; you, the dearest, kindest, noblest friend that I have ever known. Ah! memory reverts to the dim shadows of the hallowed past - which hover and soar around us like the shadowy wing of a phantom angel - and conjures up in grand array the joyous moments we have together seen. But, they linger just a little while, the shadows of those happy, haleyon [sic] days. A bleak cloud suddenly obscures their radiance, and all is dark; dark, dark as the shades of Erebus. For thou art gone; and with thy departure all that was sweet and pleasant passes away; it must not stay with us; we must not ponder o'er it. But of thee, the true-hearted and noble, the staunch, unwavering and dauntless friend, we shall always think. Your magnanimity, your nobility and ingenuousness is well known to us; with your great, unselfish nature we are familiar; your many acts of kindness have nestled and entwined themselves around our admiring heart, where they shall live and have their being until that heart's pulsations cease, until the Trumpet of Judgment shall sound and Time shall be no more. We know that your sleep will be peaceful and tranquil, and that your disenthralled soul will take its flight on glorified wings of rapture up to the celestial palace of God, and rest throughout the countless ages of eternity forever at His right hand. Pro. Schenek was a brilliant and accomplished musician; a true and steadfast friend; a fond and devoted husband; a tender, loving and affectionate father. That God in His All-Wise mercy will comfort, aid and assist the young widow, watch over, protect, guide and direct the little orphans, is the heart- felt and fervent prayer of his devoted friend. - A.
