[volume] (Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, April 08, 1922, Image 2 Death of Mrs. Christian Schmalzrid. - The news of the death of Mrs. Christian Schmalzrid, which occurred at her home on the Belle Alliance plantation yesterday morning at 6 o'clock, was received with deep sorrow and regret by her many friends and acquaintances in this city. She had been in feeble health for a long time and for the past month or more had been confined to her bed. Deceased was the widow of the late Christian Schmalzrid, who preceded her to the grave several years ago. He had been employed a blacksmith on the Belle Aliance (sic) plantation for over forty- five years, and was a hard-working and grand old man in every way. Mrs. Schmalzrid was a kind-hearted and gentle-natured woman and was possesed (sic) of an amiable disposition which endeared her to all who knew her. She was a loving wife and an affectionate mother. She devoted her entire time and attention during the whole of her life looking after her household duties and caring for her children, seldom leaving her home to attend social functions or to visit relatives and friends. Her demise has cast a gloom over the community where she lived so long and where she was liked so well. The funeral took place from her late residence this morning at 9 o'clock. Services were held at the Episcopal church in this city, Rev. Quincy Ewing performing the last sad rites, after which the remains were laid to rest in the family tomb in the Protestant cemetery. Deceased is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Fernand LeBlanc of Labadieville; Mrs. Ernest Nizzeroff and Mrs. D. Ferray of New Orleans, and Misses Julia and Molly Schmalzrid. The Chief proffers deep sympathy to them in their great bereavement.
