Death of a Good Woman. - Mrs. Joseph Shaheen, nee Melia Beatrous, a resident 
of White Castle, died at the Touro Infirmary in New Orleans last Wednesday 
morning at 1:30 o'clock, from the effects of an operation which she 
underwent a few days before, aged 23 years. She had been sick about three 
months, and was removed to New Orleans to be operated on about three weeks 
ago. Her remains were brought to Donaldsonville via the Texas and Pacific 
train at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and conveyed to the residence of 
her uncle, Habib Shaheen, from whose home the funeral took place Thursday 
afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services were held at the Catholic church, after 
which the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. A large number 
of sorrowing relatives and friends, including Greeks from all parts of the 
states of Louisiana and Mississippi, followed the remains to their last 
resting place. Deceased was born and reared in this city and spent the 
greater part of her life here. She was kind-hearted and charitable and was 
highly esteemed by all who knew her. Besides her husband, who is engaged in 
business in White Castle, she leaves three small children, two boys and one 
girl, and a large number of relatives to mourn her untimely demise. The 
Chief extends its sympathy to the bereaved family.
