(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, July 15, 1911, page 5 Death of Mrs. Robert Nicholls Sims, Sr. - Grief-bowed, and with heavy heart, we perform the sad task of chronicling this week the death of one of this community's noblest and best-beloved women, Mrs. Robert Nicholls Sims, Sr., who passed away at 7:45 o'clock last Sunday morning at the residence of her son-in- law, G. Donnaud Bentley, in Chetimaches street. Mrs. Sims had been in failing health for several years, and although at times her burden of pain was well-nigh unbearable, she accepted her sufferings patiently and uncomplainingly, evincing an ineffable sweetness of disposition and nobility of character which evoked the admiration of those about her and more than ever endeared her to the loved ones who gathered at her bedside. Just as the glory of a golden Sabbath morn unfolded itself unto a waking world with wealth of sunshine and the song of birds, her beautiful spirit took gentle leave of its mortal tenement and winged its flight to its Maker, the end coming to her as peacefully and calmly as the sinking into restful slumber of a little child or the setting of a summer's sun at the close of a cloudless day. Mrs. Sims, nee Miss Emma Kittredge, was a daughter of the late Dr. E.E. Kittredge, original owner of Elm Hall plantation in Assumption parish, and was connected by ties of birth and marriage with some of the oldest and most prominent families in Louisiana. She was the widow of the late Judge Robert Nicholls Sims, in his day a leading lawyer, citizen and statesman of this section, who preceded her to the grave twelve years ago. From this happy union nine children were born, of whom six survive, as follows: Hon. R.N. Sims, Dr. E.K. Sims, Frank K. Sims and Mrs. G. Donnaud Bentley, of Donaldsonville; Mrs. Arthur Crownover of Winchester, Tenn., and Mrs. L.A. Williams, of Crowley, La. Mrs. Sims was a woman of rare personal charm and many beautiful traits of character, and few who knew her intimately or came within the sphere of her kindly influence but loved her devotedly and admired her in a profound degree. To her husband, whom she accorded a measure of affection that was exceptional in its sincerity, she was a dutiful and faithful wife; to her children, she was a partner in the joys and sorrows of their childhood days, in the hopes and aspirations for the future then making, and at all times a loving and tender mother and guardian; to her friends, she was loyal and true, ever ready with kind counsel or cheering words to soothe their sorrows, covering with the broad mantle of charity or forbearance their faults and foibles and extolling their virtues in generous degree. After services at the Episcopal church at 10 o'clock Monday forenoon, her remains were borne to the Protestant cemetery and laid to rest beside those of her beloved husband. The final obsequies were conducted by Rev. Quincy Ewing, of Napoleonville, a nephew of Mrs. Sims, and the loving hands which bore the casket to its last resting place on the silent city of the dead were those of her "boys," Messrs. R.N. and E.K. Sims, Vernon Sims, R.N. Slator, G.D. Bentley and L.A. Williams. Many beautiful floral offerings were sent, the casket being completely embowered in these fragrant emblems of love and memory. With tear-dimmed eyes and aching heart, we breath above the eternal sleeping place of this noble woman the soul-deep prayer: Warm summer sun, shine kindly here. Warm southern wind, blow softly here. Green sod above, lie light, lie light. Good night, dear heart, good night, good night.
