[volume] (Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, October 20, 1877, Image 2 Death of Franklin Pugh Sharp. - At Belle Alliance plantation, Assumption parish, Saturday, October the 13th inst, at 4:25 o'clock A.M., Frank P. Sharp, at the early age of 24 years and 11 months, died. Frank Sharp, as he was endearingly called by all who knew and loved him, was one of the most esteemed and promising young men this parish ever produced. Possessed of rare intelligence, a handsome person and all the elements combined that constitute a noble character, Frank Pugh Sharp was destined, if his valuable life had been spared, to have reached the highest sphere of honor, wealth and usefulness. The worthy son of a noble sire, A. Jackson Sharp, a name honored, beloved and admired for vast experience in the agricultural developments of his adopted State, and all good works. Young Sharp, under the care of his aged parents, who had carefully trained his son in the science of sugar-planting, adopted the occupation par excellence of his father, and entered upon it with an energy, devotion and intense application that absolutely was bound to ensure success. Only 25 years of age he reached such eminence in his occupation as to secure the entire control of the finest sugar estate in the State of Louisiana, that of the heirs of the late Charles Kock, Esq. Having early married the lovely daughter of Robert Maurin, Esq., he directed all his splendid talents to his favorite business, and the destiny of young Sharp was considered to be resplendent in its results. With temperate, industrious, habits, full of life and glorious anticipations of the future, and, above all, surrounded by an accomplished devoted wife and tender babe, poor Frank was unexpectedly attacked by typhoyd (sic) fever, which, in spite of the most skillful medical aid, terminated fatally. As an evidence of the esteem in which he was held, not only in Assumption, but in Ascension, his funeral at the Episcopal Church at Donaldsonville, was the largest ever seen there. Language is, indeed, inadequate to express our sympathy for the young widow, her babe and all the honored relatives of poor Frank, who we humbly trust, now rests with the redeemed and blessed of Heaven. Most fervently do we hope, - relying as we firmly do, upon the future redemption promised us through the blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ - that our friend is now with Our Father in Heaven forever more.
