Lucius F. Suthon, a prominent lawyer and planter of Terrebonne parish, died at the Hotel Dieu, New Orleans, on the 22nd of January, 1905, from the effects of a carbuncle with which he had been afflicted about ten days, and his remains were interred at Houma, La., where he had resided and practiced law since 1874. Mr. Sutbou was a native of Assumption parish, aged 57 years. He was educated at Bingham High School, near Raleigh, N. C.; received the degree of master of arts from the university of Edinborough, taught Latin in the Bellevue High School of Bedford county, Va., and graduated in law at New Orleans. In politics Mr. Suthon was a Republican and occupied a leading position in the councils of the party for a number of years. He ran for attorney general on the Pharr ticket in 1896, and was a delegate at large to the Republican national convention last year. He was president of the Greenwood Planting Company and of the Houma Fish and Oyster Company, and attorney for the two banks at Houma. In common with a host of admiring friends, The Chief profoundly regrets the demise of this estimable gentleman and tenders assurance of sympathy to his bereaved relatives, the nearest of whom comprise his aged mother, Mrs. Lucius Suthon, of New Orleans; two brothers, Walter J. Suthon, a Terrebonne sugar planter, and Hugh S. Suthon, superintendent of the United States Mint at New Orleans, and three sisters, Misses Georgiana Suthon, a missionary of Japan, Mary and Fanny Suthon, of New Orleans.
