Tearney of Mc Call plantation received a few days ago the following letter of condolence over the death of their son, Sergeant Andrew L. Tearney, who died at Camp Pike on the 8th inst.: Camp Pike, Ark., Oct. 9, 1918. My Dear Mr. and Mrs. Tearney - it was with deepest regret that I was compelled, in my official capacity, to notify you of the death of your son, Sergeant Andrew L. Tearney. While your son had only been in our organization for a short time, we discovered his ability and considered him one of the most valuable men in the command. Personaly, I was very much attached to your son. In his daily duties he was in the office with me, and the news of his death was a severe shock to me. While this is a severe shock to both of you, it will be some consolation to look back in your declining years to his record as having died in the line of duty in the service. I express the feeling of every officer and soldier in this command when I say that in your son is lost a good soldier, a patriot, and a gentleman at all times. Sergeant Seymour Joseph, who delivers the last sad remembrance of your son, was his friend, and was selected to return the body to its last resting place on that account. Again assuring you of our deepest sympathy in this sad hour, I am, Very respectfully, MATTHEW CAMPBELL, Commanding Officer. The remains of the young soldier were brought to the home of his parents on Souvenr (sic) plantation, Friday afternoon of last week, from which place the funeral took place the following day at 3 o'clock p.m. Additional Comments: NOTE: www.findagrave.com memorial # 188802979 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/ascension/obits/t/tearney8629gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/lafiles/ File size: 2.3 Kb
