Thibaut Called Away After Years of Suffering. In the death of Mrs. John S. Thibaut, which occurred at 10:25 o'clock a. m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, Donaldsonville suffers the loss of one of its most prominent and highly esteemed women. She had been in ill health for several years, having suffered paralytic attacks at periodic intervals, but notwithstanding the fact that her condition was known to be critical and the inevitable end only a matter of time, the announcement of her demise proved a profound shock to her family and scores of friends and cast a deep pail of gloom over the community. The funeral took place at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday forenoon and was largely attended. Persons from all over this section of the state were included in the throng of mourners who followed the remains to their last resting place, a tribute of esteem and affection for the lamented dead more eloquent than words. The impressive burial service of the Catholic faith was performed at the house, church and grave by Rev. Father C. M. Chambon, pastor of the local church, assisted by Rev. Father L'Anglais of Napoleonville and Francois of Plattenville. A number of prominent Masons were present for the obsequies, among them being John Armstrong, grand master of the Louisiana grand lodge; John Davilla, grand secretary, and E. H. Addington, past grand master. The floral offerings were exceptionally numerous and beautiful, particularly striking tokens being those sent by the Masonic grand lodge of Louisiana and the 334th regiment of field artillery, U. S. A. Mrs. Thibaut was the wife of Dr. John S. Thibaut, vice president and cashier of the Bank of Ascension, and a distinguished Mason, being a former grand master of the Louisiana jurisdiction and of thirty-second degree standing in the fraternity. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Lieut. C. Charest Thibaut, who earned a commission at the first officers' training camp at Fort Roots, Arrkansas, and is presently stationed there as an officer of the 334th Field Artillery. Other members of the bereaved family are two sisters, Mrs. August Thibaut and Mrs. Lynn Himel, both of Napoleonville, and two brothers, Alfred Lastrapes, of Port Barre, and Bronier Lastrapes, chemist of the Salsburg sugar refinery at Lauderdale, St. James parish. With the passing away of this estimable woman a life of beauty and exemplary devotion to all that makes the world better came to an untimely close. Sorrow for her loss is a wide and general as was the circle of her acquaintance. Gracious, charitable, cultured and refined could be said of her, and more. Her memory will forever be enshrined in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. The Chief joins with hosts of others in extending sincere sympathy to the grief-stricken family.
