(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871 - current, April 19, 1919, Image 2 Death of James K. Tucker. - James K. Tucker, for many years a resident of this parish, died at his home in Baton Rouge, where he had resided for the past eight years, Sunday, April 13. He was born near Milan, Tennessee, January 13, 1845, and was 74 years and three months old at the time of his death. Deceased entered the Confederate army when only 19 years of age and served under Gen. N. B. Forrest. He was eriously (sic) wounded in the leg in a battle near Atlanta, Ga., and remained disabled from this wound in that city for over one year, and did not return home until 1866, long after the close of the war. He came to Louisiana in 1871, as an employee of John Burnside. He was assistant manager of the Clark plantation for four years. In 1876-77, he was manager of the Donaldson plantation. On January 1, 1878, he was transferred to the Clark as manager, where he remained for eleven years. He was promoted to the management of the Armant and Valcour Aime plantations in St. James, and remained there for 22 years, resigning January 1, 1911, when he removed to Baton Rouge to engage in farming and cattle raising, which industries he pursued to the time of his death He lived 17 years in Ascension, 22 years in St. James and 8 in Baton Rouge, making a total of 47 years in Louisiana. He was one of the best informed and best posted sugar planters in the state. Of a quiet disposition, but possessed of the highest honor and strictest integrity and respected and esteemed by all who knew him. He was married Dec. 15, 1876, to Miss Olivia J. McFall, and their union was blessed with six children, the eldest boy, Sidney, died in 1884 at the age of seven years. He is survived by his widow, who is an invalid, and five children, as follows: Dr. J. Arthur Tucker of Baton Rouge; Curtis Tucker of St. Patrick; Mrs. J. B. Pittmann, Mrs. Myrick Carstorphen and Mrs. Fred Hurst and several grand-children. The funeral took place in the Capital city last Monday, and the remains were laid to rest in Magnolia cemetery at that place. The pall-bearers were: Horace Wilkinson, W. C. Whitaker, Dan Morgan, Myrick Carstorphen, John B. Pittman and his two sons, Arthur and Curtis. Peace to his ashes!
