(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, December 15, 1917, Image 3 GOOD CITIZEN CALLED AWAY. - Christian Wintter Closes Life of Usefulness and Honor. - Brief announcement was made in our last issue of the death of Christian Wintter, proprietor of the Model Bakery, which occurred at Mr. Wintter's home in Houmas street at 3:45 o'clock Friday afternoon, Dec. 7. The attack of illness to which he succumbed covered a period of five weeks, and while the news of his demise caused profound sorrow among a large circle of friends and acquaintances, it did not come as a complete surprise. Mr. Wintter was born in Wurttemburg, Germany, and was exactly 66 years of age, his death occurring on the anniversary of his birth. He had resided in Donaldsonville for more than twenty years, and was one of the community's most substantial and public-spirited citizens. Regarded as a man of honore and one whose character was beyond reproach, he was held in the highest esteem not only by those who enjoyed the pleasure of his better acquaintance, but by all with whom he came in contact. He was charitable and sympathetic to a marked degree, and possessed unusual and rare qualities which endeared him to many. His remains were laid to rest in the Protestant cemetery Saturday afternoon, following services at the Methodist church conducted by Rev. P. O. Lowrey. A large number of friends gathered to escort his remains to the grave, and many were the eulogistic tributes paid to his memory and the sincere expressions of sorrow voiced anent his passing. Mr. Wintter is survived by his wife, one son, Christian Wintter, and three daughters, Misses Marie, Jet and Lillian Wintter. A step-son, Henry Hakenjos, is also a member of the bereaved family. The Chief shares the sorrow occasioned by the death of this good citizen, and joins in extending assurances of sincere sympathy to the grief-stricken wife and children.
