A notable event of the current week was the marriage of Miss Alice Braud, the lovely daughter of Hon. H.C. Braud of Burnside, to James Campbelle Bates, a prominent and popular young business man of Dallas, Texas, which was solemnized at the Burnside Chapel on Tuesday afternoon, the 15th inst., at 2 o'clock. The ceremony was performed by Dr. Beverley E. Warner, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, New Orleans, in the presence of a large gathering of relatives and friends of the contracting parties, and the attendants were Miss Maisie Marsden of Shreveport, maid of honor; H. Clay Braud, best man; Misses Virgie Braud and Mary Leake, bridesmaids, and R.N. Slator and E.D. Stafford, ushers. Little Miss Ufa Tircuit, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Tircuit of Plaquemine, officiated as ring-bearer, and Miss Renie Stephenson presided at the organ. After the ceremony a delightful reception was held at the home of the bride's father, which afforded much enjoyment to all present. Mr. and Mrs. Bates were the recipients of a large number of beautiful gifts and were showered with congratulations and good wishes by their host of friends far and near. The newly-mated pair left on the north-bound Mississippi Valley train Tuesday afternoon for Memphis, where they spent a day or two before proceeding to Dallas, in which city they will make their future home. The Chief takes pleasure in extending cordial felicitations to the happy young couple and hopes that the span of their married life will extend through a long number of years filled with naught but joy, happiness and prosperity.
