FORTIER -- MAILLETTE. - On Monday, April 27, 1885, at St. Francis of Assium's Church, Ascension parish, La., by Rev. F. X. Ceuppens, Mr. James L. Fortier to Miss Ludivine Maillette, both of this parish. A large number of the friends of this handsome and universally esteemed young couple accompanied them to the church to witness the marriage ceremony and assembled at the bride's residence thereafter to tender congratulations, paatake (sic) of an elegant spread of refreshments and bid the happy pair good-by upon their departure for New Orleans by the evening train. The affair was one of the most delightful character. The lovely appearance of the bride at the altar and the manly bearing of the handsome groom excited much admiring comment. They were attended by Miss Lucile Braud as bridesmaid and Mr. Felix Fortier, brother of the groom, as groomsman, and the attention attracted by the attendants was only secondary to that bestowed upon the principals. The reception at the Maillette residence was a brilliant one. Toasts to the newly married couple were offered and most heartily received, and innumerable wishes for their future happiness were expressed by their assembled friends. At 3 P.M., they entered a carriage and proceeded to the depot, whence they departed for New Orleans on the 3:12 train intending to spend the balance of the week in that city. They have been the recipients of a numerous collection of valuable and useful gifts, which attest the high regard entertained for them by a large circle of friends. The groom has been employed as bookkeeper for the house of Messrs. Bernard Lemann & Bro., for a number of years and is known as one of the most competent and reliable young business men in the community. He is deserving of a capital prize in the matrimonial lottery and we believe he has won it in the person of his lovely and accomplished bride. May their lives be blessed beyond their brightest anticipations is the wish of the sincere friend who pens these lines.
