Thursday at half after five of the clock, the Roman Catholic Church was the scene of the nuptials of Miss Cora Smith of this parish and Mr. Wesley Proffitt of Donaldsonville. The altars of the sacred building were beautiful with many candles and simple but artistic decoration of cut flowers, ferns and other greens. The wedding march was played by Miss Cleo Vaughan, and when its glad notes sounded the bride appeared, coming up to the altar with her father, W. B. Smith. Simultaneously the bridegroom came forth from the sacristy, accompanied by the officiating priest, Rev. Father Van Grinsven, and the best man, the groom's brother, Mr. Hiram Proffitt. The bride wore a becoming and chic gown of champagne color messaline [sic] satin, with hat and gloves of the same shade. A particularly graceful and handsome blonde, the color harmonized with the rich tones of her type of beauty. After the ceremony a few friends were received at Solitude plantation, the family home of the Smith family, near town. The house bore beautiful decorations of greenery and natural flowers in honor of the happy marriage of this lovely young daughter. Mr. Proffitt is assistant postmaster at Donaldsonville, and is a young man highly thought of in his native parish of Ascension, where his parents are prominent residents. It seems but the other day that Cora Smith was a little schoolgirl, so soon has she thrown off the estate of young ladyhood [sic] to assume the happier but more serious lot of wifehood. All who have known and loved her through the years hope that her future may be as bright as her past has been serene. - St. Francisville True-Democrat, June 10.
