L. and Emilie (Naquin) Ancoin. In 1878, when the South was swept by yellow fever, the father was taken away by that dread disease, the mother, five daughters and two sons surviving. Edgard was thoroughly trained to mercantile pursuits, serving as a clerk for many years. In 1874 he embarked in business in partnership with his brother-in-law, Paul Francioni, under the firm name of Francioni & Ancoin, carrying a large stock of general merchandise in the town of Labadieville. He has won a large patronage from the town and adjoining territory, and enjoys the confidence of the entire community. He is agent for the telephone company at this point, and attends to this branch of the business with the same fidelity that characterizes all his transactions. In 1888 the people of the parish called him to fill the office of treasurer, a position of much responsibility, requiring sound business judgment and more than ordinary qualifications. He has conducted the affairs pertaining thereto to the entire satisfaction of his constituency and is still the incumbent of the office. In 1874 Mr. Ancoin was married to Miss Adolphine Grazianie of Assumption parish. One child has been born to them, named Emilie. The family are devout members of the Roman Catholic church. He was elected sheriff in April, 1892, at the general election, and selected the efficient deputy clerk of court for seven years as his chief deputy sheriff. Too much can not be said in praise of the high standing of Mr. Ancoin in the community. >From Biographical and Historical Memoires of Louisiana, volume 2, p. 250. Submitted by Mike Miller
