This plantation is located nine miles below Donaldsonville on the right bank of the Lafourche bayou and comprises 3,000 acres of land, deriving its name from the many fine magnolia trees on the place. A large portion of the land is in an excellent state of cultivation, and the entire place is managed and looked after by Mr. Barton, who is the thorough master of his calling. The firm name of the plantation is Aldrich & Barton. The former gentleman resides in Natchez, Miss. In 1876 Mr. Barton married Miss Carrie Kittredge, a daughter of Dr. E. E. Kittredge, at one time the most extensive sugar planter in the state and very wealthy. To Mr. and Mrs. Barton two sons and two daughters have been born, but these children were left motherless in 1890. In 1891 he married Miss Blanche Kemper of St. Mary parish. Mr. Barton is of that stuff of which noble and useful citizens are made and would be an acquisition to any locality in which he might choose to locate. He is a member of the Knights of Honor, in which order he is a useful and honored member. From Biographical and Historical Memoires of Louisiana, volume 2, p. 267. Submitted by Mike Miller
