Folse & Son, attorneys at law, Napoleonville, La., was born in Assumption parish July 16, 1833. His parents, J. Z. and Marie E. (Hymel) Folse were natives of St. John Baptist and S~ James parishes respectively. The father was a carpenter by trade and was also engaged in planting to some extent; he died in 1837 at the age of thirty-seven years; the mother died in 1882, nearly eighty years of age. The subject of this brief biography was reared to the life of a planter, receiving a thorough training in all its details. He was married in 1857, February 5, to Miss J. V. Truxillo, a daughter of Andrew and Maria (Martinez) Truxillo; she is a native of Louisiana as ware also her parents. Her father died at the age of sixty-six years, and her mother lived to be sixty-two. Mr. and Mrs. Folse are the parents of twelve children--six sons and six daughters. Three sons and four daughters are living: Lucile A., married A. P. Le Blanc February 26, 1881, and they have had two daughters born to them; Mollie K. married D. P. Landry January 30, 1888, and two daughters have been born to them, one of whom is deceased; Dora L. married J. P. B. Landry in 1885, Mr. Landry died in 1889, leaving two sons; Joseph U. Folse, the junior partner of the firm, married Miss Mary K. La Blanc, January 8, 1890, and they have one daughter, Inez. The family are all members of the Roman Catholic church. Mr. Folse began the practice of his profession in 1868, locating at Napoleonvilie, where he was a member of the firm of Nicholls, Le Blanc & Folse. After the election of Mr. Nicholls as governor the partnership was dissolved, and Mr. Folse entered into business relations with Capt. Louis Guion. They practiced together until 1884, when Mr. Folse formed a partnership with K. N. Pugh which existed until July 19, 1887. Since that time the firm has been Folse & Son. A business connection was formed between Mr. Folse and W. E. Howell which was of only a few months' duration. Biographical and Historical Memoires of Louisiana, (vol. 1), pp. 418-419.
