Monnot Assumption Parish, Louisiana Ernest L. Monnot, a prosperous planter of Assumption parish, La., was born in the state of Louisiana in April, 1840, and is the son of Charles C. and Josephine (Bourgeois) Monnot. The father was a native of France and was a physician by profession. He immigrated to this country in 1822 and practiced his profession successfully until his death, which occurred in 1847. The mother survived until 1878. They had three children born to them--two sons and one daughter--the daughter died in infancy. Ernest L. was reared in Assumption parish and received his education there. In 1861 he abandoned his private interests to enlist in the confederate army. He joined the Donaldsonville artillery, serving with this company until the surrender at Appomattox in April, 1865. In 1869 Mr. Monnot was married to Miss Lelia Lockett, of Virginia, a daughter of James S. And Mary (Clark) Lockett. Three children have been born of this union, all daughters. The eldest, Heloise M., married J. N. Thibaut, a planter of this parish. Mr. Monnot has spent the greater portion of his life in the community in which he now lives. He has devoted all his time to agriculture, and has one of the best plantations in the parish, well improved with substantial buildings and modern conveniences.
