The petition of Rosemond Dugas a resident of the parish of Assumption respectfully represents That his mother Margueritte Dugas wife of Jean Dugas his father died on the [ day illegible] August 1852, leaving for him, Achille Dugas, Leon Dugas Arthemise Dugas wife of Marcelin Leblanc, Marie Fedelei Dugas wife of Manville Landry and your petitioners. Your petitioners further represents that at the death of said Marguerite Duhon, she left certain property in community with her aforesaid husband Jean Dugas, consisting of a sugar estate, slaves and moveable effects. Your petitioners further represents that his father has ever since the death of his mother remain in possession of the community property and declare his intention to continue so [word illegible] of the loss? 25th March 18[??] which give the privilege to have the use [word illegible] of the community property during[?] his life time unless he contract a second marriage Your petitioners further represents that his mother brought in marriage a certain sum of money; that his father his[?] willing to pay the said amount to the hiers of said Margueritte Duhon. [ Next Page ] and all other [word illegible] of said community Your petitioners further represents that it is necessary to have an inventory made; of all community property and of the debts and charges of [4 words illegible] also of the separate property of Margueritte Duhon. Your petitioners further represents that it is necessary to have an administrator appointed to the succession of said Margueritte Duhon. Wherefore your petitioners pray that an inventory of said property be made by Amedo Morel [Mond?] Esy? a notary public in and for the parish of Assumption that your petitioners be appointed adminstrator to the succession of his mother Margueritte Duhon and that his application be published during the time and in the manner prescribed by law. In this case is necessary that [word illegible] said [word illegible] notice of petitioner's application for the administration of said succession having been published during the time and in the manner as is prescribed by law; and [word illegible] application? [2 words illegible] paid?; [3 words illegible] that the petitioner Rosimond Dugas be appointed administrator of the succession of Margueritte Duhon deceased wife of Jean Dugas [4 words illegible] NOTES: A copy of this succession document was obtained by my aunt from the Assumption parish court house in about 1990. My notes are enclosed in braces []. In 1852, Marguerite Duon, died at the age of 70. She was buried on August 18. Her husband Jean was still living and was about 70 years old. Rosemond is the oldest child, at 46, and had the duty of taking care of his mother's estate. These children were living at the time: Rosemond Dugas, age 46, married for 25 years Jean Achille Dugas, age 45, married for 22 years Marguerite Arthemis, age 39, married for 22 years Marie Fidelie, age 37, married 19 years Leon, age 35, married 12 years One of their children, Joseph Ovide, died at the age of 15. Another child, Jerome, had been married for 12 years. Jerome's age is unknown and I'm not sure why he was not mentioned in this document. David J.
