All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** ------------------------------------------------------------------ Parish of Lafourche State of Louisiana Be it known, by these presents, that on this seventh day of the month of February, 1877, in order to make an amicable partition of the plantation known as "Eugenia" situated in this parish on the left bank of Bayou Lafourche, about forty one miles below the town of Thibodaux. Mr. Pierre Bourgeois, proposes and Mrs. Martha Rose Anna Larkin, wife of Pierre A. Thibodaux, heree present and assisting and authorizing his wife, accepts, the partition on the following conditions, to-wit: The land comprising said plantation situated along Bayou Lafourche, measuring eighteen arpents, more or less, front by forty arpents in depth, between parallel lines, bounded above by land known as "Nettleton Tract", and below by land or plantation known as "De Head" belonging since last year to Mr. Gueno, -shall be partitioned into two unequal portions, the upper portion measuring seven arpents and one half, more or less, front by forty arpents in depth, with all the buildings and improvements thereon, containing three hundred arpents, more or less, in superficies, now belongs to Mrs. P. A. Thibodaux. The lower portion measuring ten arpents and one half, more or less, front by forty arpents in depth, containing four hundred twenty arpents, more or less, in superficies, henceforth belongs to Mr. Pierre Bourgeois. The land comprising said plantation "Eugenia" situated on both sides of Bayou Petit Bayou L'Ours (Little Bayou L'Ours) bounded front by land of said plantation "De Head" and below by land belonging formerly to Mrs. Fransisco de Paula Parra, measuring fifty arpents, more or less, in length, along the North bank of Bayou "Little Bayou L'Ours" shall be divided into four parts, or equal portions, the length to be measured along Little Bayou L'Ours without regard as to depth or length of said land, but partitioning the opening and the closing, taking into consideration the canals and stations existing on the tract, and looking to the advantage of both owners. The first portion of said land on Little Bayou L'Ours joining the forty arpent line of the land of "DeHead" plantation and extending the length and along both sides of said Bayou Little Bayou L'Ours, shall henceforth belong to Mrs. Pierre A. Thibodaux. The second portion of said Little Bayou L'Ours land, adjacent to the first portion of said land herein above described, allotted to Mrs. Thibodaux, and extending the length of and on both sides of Little Bayou L'Ours, shall henceforth belong to Pierre Bourgeois. The third portion of said Little Bayou L'Ours land, adjacent to the second portion of said land above described and allotted to Pierre Bourgeois, extending along and on both sides of said Little Bayou L'Ours shall henceforth belong to Mrs. Pierre Thibodaux. The fourth portion of said Bayou "Little Bayou L'Ours" land adjacent to the third portion of said land above described and allotted to Mrs. Thibodaux, extending the length of and on both sides of Little Bayou L'Ours shall henceforth belong to Mr. Pierre Bourgeois. This latter portion allotted to Pierre Bourgeois also comprises two hundred forty acres of land more than is described in the Land Office of the United States, and in the previous sales, as follows: The North half of Lot six (6) and the South halves of Lots six (6) and seven (7) and eight (8) of Section (51) fifty-one, and the North halves of Lots one (1) and two (2) of Section fifty eight (58) of Township eighteen (18) South of Range twenty one East, South Eastern District of Louisiana. It is well understood that for the partition, the lower line of the land along little Bayou L'Ours herein allotted to Mr. Bourgeois shall be taken on the "Coteaux" (hills) of said Bayou, where the line between Sections fifty one and fifty eight of said Township traverse the Coteau of Bayou Little Bayou L'Ours. It is agreed by us that Mr. Thibodaux shall divide th said land as hereinabove stipulated, without charge by Mr. Pierre Bourgeois, who agrees to furnish at his cost the labor to aid Mr. Thibodaux to make said partition, and who reserves the right, if he sees fit, to appoint another surveyor to assist in this partition, at his expense. It is agreed by us, that Mr. Pierre Bourgeois has the right to continue to occupy the one half of the cabins and other improvements situated on the seven arpents and one half front, on the upper line of said plantation until the end of this year. It is understood by us that as soon as the lines shall have been drawn between our properties as hereinabove stipulated, she shall cause to be written a notarial act which we shall record in the record office of this parish, and that we shall mutually guarantee our titles according to ordinary forms, and according to laws in such matters. We have signed in the presence of witnesses, in duplicate, and we shall each keep a copy of this act and if at any time one of us thinks it proper to cause this act to be recorded, then we intend that same be considered as an agreement between us. Michelet, one of the witnesses, to the within instrument, who first being sworn deposes and says that the signatures of Martha Rose Anna Larkin, P. A. Thibodaux, Pierre Bourgeois, and the other witness, C. J.
