Legendre 4 Jan. 1902 GEORGE BENNET was found shot to death on TPRR tracks near AMADEE TETE's plantation last Tuesday. The widow of ADOLPH JUGE, nee ANN O'REILLY, age 59, died at her home 1 1/2 miles above Napoleonville. The funeral was at Plattenville with burial in Donaldsonville. She leaves two sons and two daughters. 11 Jan. 1902 Mrs. LAURA E. FORD, owner of Bellewood Plantation, leaves today for New Orleans and New York, then on to Europe for a tour. She will make her future home in New York. S. E. ROGER bought Bellewood Plantation. JULES BLANCHARD is to marry GULLY WALTERS, daughter of BEN WALTERS, on 6 Feb. at St. Napoleon Church. 18 Jan. 1902 Succession of BALTHAZAR ALLEMAN and INEZ CABALLERO, his wife, on Cosa Natural Plantation: auction 3 Feb. 1902. 25 Jan. 1902 GEORGE LANDRY, formerly of Assumption, resident of Morgan City for the past two years, married ELDRIA ALLESON of Morgan City last week. A colored boy shot and killed another negro, age about 15, while hunting 1st Sunday morning near Freetown, six miles below Napoleonville. 1 Feb. 1902 A girl was born to CLAY DUGAS last week. ELPHEGE MARTIN married NELLIE BERNIARD at St. Napoleon Church last Wednesday. Next Wednesday, 5 Feb., JAMES MATHERN will marry ROSA VALERY at St. Napoleon Church at 5 p.m. VALERY A. THIBODAUX, son of THEOPHILE THIBODAUX of Thibodaux, brother of Dr. PAUL THIBODAUX of Ascension and Dr. O. J. THIBODAUX of Napoleonville, enlisted in the British Army in South Africa two years ago. In a letter dated 5 Dec. 1901, he reports he will take the position of Inspector of the Electric Tramway Co. at Durban. (from the Donaldsonville Chief) 8 Feb. 1902 A girl was born to FRANCIS RODRIGUE. 22 Feb. 1902 ULYSSE MARQUETTE was buried in Plattenville. He had drowned in mid January and his body just found this morning near the Napoleonville bridge. EMELIE EDOUIGE VERRET, 21 years 4 months and 1 day, died last Sunday in Plattenville. The funeral was Monday in Plattenville. 1 Mar. 1902 FRANK KOCKRITZ, formerly a resident of Napoleonville, died in Kentucky the early part of this week. His only son, ALBERT KOCKRITZ, left to attend the funeral. Mrs. MOSES F. HOLLANDER died. JOSEPH DUGAS of Sweet Home Plantation will marry OCTAVIA LIVAUDAIS of New Orleans at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on 2 April at 10 a.m. 22 Mar. 1902 S. A. ALLEMAN, the principal at Napoleonville High School, will marry BERTHA LANDRY, daughter of ULYSSE LANDRY, on 9 April at her home on Mary Plantation in Lafourche. 26 April 1902 EMILY V. AUCOIN, daughter of EDGAR AUCOIN, will marry JOHN J. PIERSON of Thibodaux on Tuesday 27 May at Labadieville church. JOSIE FLEURANGE LEBLANC, daughter of Mrs. LUCILLE LEBLANC and granddaughter of Judge and Mrs. L. U. FOLSE, will marry CHARLES HENRY MUNNSON on Tuesday, 29 April, at St. Napoleon Church. 10 May 1902 Capt. A. B. FRENCH, owner of the "New Sensation," died at his home in Cincinnati on the 8th instant. 24 May 1902 ARISTIDE P. JUNOT of Assumption died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday. The funeral was on Thursday at Assumption Church in Plattenville. 31 May 1902 MYRTHE FORET married WHITMEL CARIERRE on Wednesday at 9 a.m. in Plattenville. She was escorted by her uncle, KLEBERT FALTEMAN. The brother of the groom, NICK CARIERRE, was best man. 7 June 1902 DRAUZIN HIMEL, ... bought St. Martin Plantation in partnership with HARVEY NORTH, a New Yorker. [ from TLL Vol 12 No 2 ] DRAUZIN HIMEL, husband in the first marriage of Miss TERREBONNE with whom he had six children, and in the second marriage of AMELIE HERMANN - with whom he has three sons and four daughters - died last Sunday at 10:30 P.M. at lower Assumption. A native of Lafourche Parish, he was 83 1/2 years of age. At one time, he had been in partnership with HARVEY NORTH, a New Yorker. [ 7 June 1902 correction from TLL Vol 12 No 4, p. 50 ] 14 June 1902 CHLOE BREAUX, aged 19, the daughter of EDOUARD BREAUX of the Attakapas Canal, died of typhoid fever at Rayne, La. at the home of her sister, MRS. BESSE. (LIZZIE BREAUX is MRS. ALBERT L. BESSE.) Her body was returned and buried at the Canal Cemetery. [ 14 June 1902 addition from TLL Vol 12 No 4, p. 50 ] 21 June 1902 HARRY MOONEN, foreman of the water works tower, fell from the tower Thursday morning and died. He was 34 years old; left a wife and two children, who live in New Orleans. CLARENCE SAVOIE will marry the daughter of FELIX DUGAS on 2 July at St. Elizabeth Church in Paincourtvile. EMILY TEMPLET will marry ANDREW CAPBERN of White Castle. 9 Aug. 1902 A young child of CHARLES BARTHET of Labadieville died recently. 16 Aug. 1902 MOISE UHRY, proprietor of the Royal Store in Napoleonville, is engaged to marry EMELIE KAHN of Belmont Plantation. 23 Aug. 1902 NELLIE LAWES, daughter of the late Doctor of Assumption, wife of WILL MOORMAN, died Sunday night at the Virginia Ave. residence of ROBERT ELWOOD. She leaves a baby one week old, and 18-month old daughter, and her husband. She was buried temporarily in Culton graveyard 6 Aug. 1902. (Pineville KY Herald of 14 August). 30 August 1902 Mrs. OSCAR GUILLOT (nee BERNUCHOT, the first to die) died at New Orleans. Mrs. OMER GUILLOT (nee MAIRE of Plattenville) died last week. Mrs. ELPHEGE GUILLOT, daughter of JOSEPH T. HEBERT and sister of ex-mayor L. P. HEBERT of Napoleonville, died last Saturday night. They were the wives of three brothers. 13 Sept. 1902 JEAN CANCIENNE married RITA ADOLPH, daughter of EMILE ADOLPH of the Canal, on Wednesday 10 Sept. at St Napoleon Church. The best man was brother of the groom, CHARLES CANCIENNE, LILY ADOLPH, the bride's sister, was the maid of honor THEOPHILE THIBODAUX, son of Dr. PAUL THIBODAUX, age 1 year and 8 days, died 5 Sept. 20 Sept. 1902 LAURA DOLESE, daughter of JOHN DOLESE, celebrated her birthday last Thursday. A Mass was said last Thursday at St. Napoleon Church for the repose of the soul of Mrs. J. I. McCONNELL. Mrs. EMILE DELAUNE, nee LOCKER of Jeanerette, has been visiting Mrs. JULES GAYRAL. Her husband, EMILE DELAUNE, died last fall in Jeanerette. MRS. JUSTIN LANDRY, nee ZULMEE TRICHE, died Sept. 15, 1902, at the home of her son, ABEL LANDRY. She was born Feb. 2, 1833 at the old TRICHE home on the left bank of Bayou Lafourche. She lived 16 years in Napoleonville. Since her daughter MISS MARGARET LANDRY died, she has lived with her son. She leaves four sons: MACK LANDRY of Thibodaux, ABEL LANDRY, ADAM LANDRY, and O. P. LANDRY of Napoleonville. The funeral was held at St. Napoleon Church with burial at Plattenville. [ 20 Sept. 1902 addition from TLL Vol 12 No 4, p. 50 ] 27 Sept. 1902 Births: a boy to JOHN VIVES; a girl to E. J. WATHEN. AMADIE DELAUNE of Upper Texas (Plantation) was killed on the evening of the 24th when unloading a cart to which three horses were hitched. When the horses ran away, he was thrown from the cart and his neck was broken. [ 27 Sept. 1902 addition from TLL Vol 12 No 4, p. 50 ] 4 Oct. 1902 Births: a boy to AUGUSTE RIEHL, born last Monday; a girl to Dr. P. J. DANSEREAU, his first child, born last Sunday. JUMONVILLE, a member of McCulloh's Battery during the late unpleasantness with Spain - funeral today at St. Francis of Assisi Church at Smoke Bend. His children are P. E., HENRY and ESTELLE JUMONVILLE. 11 Oct. 1902 BARTON ... In 1890 he owned a plantation in Terrebonne Parish; he moved to St. James Parish and became a member of the Legislature in 1890. Leaves a wife and several children. [ from TLL Vol 12 No 2 ] HON. HERBERT N. BARTON died Oct. 9th at 5 P.M. at New Orleans. He was born Nov 29, 1858 on Little Texas Plantation. [ 11 Oct. 1902 correction from TLL Vol 12 No 4, p. 50 ] MRS. ANGELE DAIGLE DUPRE, the wife of HENRY DUPRE, died on Elm Hall Plantation on Tuesday. The burial was at St. Elizabeth Church, Paincourtville, on Wednesday. She leaves four children. [ 11 Oct. 1902 addition from TLL Vol 12 No 4, p. 50 ] 18 Oct. 1902 Mrs. PHILIP PEDEAUX, daughter of RODOLPH HEBERT of Belle Rose, age 29, died last evening at 10 p.m. at Hotel Dieu in New Orleans. Her husband is the manager of Lula Plantation. She leaves 2 children. The funeral is at 4 p.m. today at Paincourtville. WILLIAM FORD, son of the late Dr. JOSEPH D. FORD of Assumption Parish, died in London last week. He was a native of Assumption Parish, a financier and merchant in New York City. (See 15 Nov. 1902) EMILY FLANDRY, daughter of L. A. FLANDRY of Napoleonville, married HUBERT TREILLE of Port Barrow today at 10:30 a.m. The couple left for Bunkie LA. 25 Oct. 1902 Birth: a boy to JAMES MATHERNE, born at Napoleonville last night. 8 Nov. 1902 Mrs. SAM ST. MARTIN, wife of the sheriff of Ascension Parish, died Tuesday. Dr. CLIFTON HIMEL will marry next Wednesday. MRS. OSCAR FOLSE died Sunday at the home of her son-in-law, LEONCE TROSCLAIR of Lafourche. FORD, born in Napoleonville 49 years ago; funeral at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Clinton and Montague Streets, Brooklyn NY. He died 7 Oct. (1902) in London after an operation in May for meningitis. (Brooklyn Eagle) 22 Nov. 1902 COL. JOSEPH E. LEBLANC died on Friday morning, Nov. 21st. He was born 60 years and 7 months ago. [ 22 Nov. 1902 addition from TLL Vol 12 No 4, p. 50 ] JOSEPH LEBLANC, married to a daughter of the late XAVIER DUGAS, father of 11 children of which 10 are living: Mdms. JOSEPH U. FOLSE, JNO. RODRIGUE, ALFRED LANDRY, Miss THERESE LEBLANC, ROBERT LEBLANC, Dr. HENRY LEBLANC, PHIL J. LEBLANC, LEONCE LEBLANC, JULES LEBLANC, and SAM LEBLANC. His brothers are ULYSSE LEBLANC and ALCEE LEBLANC. His brothers-in-law are HONORE DUGAS, FELIX DUGAS, ULYSSE DUGAS and HENRY DUGAS. [ from TLL Vol 12 No 2 ] P. H. GILBERT Jr. was born Saturday the 15th at Napoleonville. His grandfathers are PIERRE J. GILBERT and SABIN SAVOIE. 29 Nov. 1902 HYPOLITE MAIRE, a resident of Plattenville for 20 years, died at his Donaldsonville residence this week. He was over 75, a native of France, and came to America when we were at war with Mexico. He served in the U. S. Army. He was a wheelwright and master mechanic. He had a daughter of his first marriage, Mrs. OMER GUILLOT, of Elm Hall. He had two sons of his second marriage, to Miss GAUTHRAUX of St. James, EDMOND MAIRE and NICK MAIRE of Donaldsonville. LYLLIAN KLING is to marry Mr. WEIL on Thursday Dec. 11th at the synagogue in New Orleans. 13 Dec. 1902 MAURICE GAUTREAUX died at his home in Brulee Labadie yesterday. He had passed the age of 75. [ 13 Dec. 1902 addition from TLL Vol 12 No 4, p. 50 ] 20 Dec. 1902 MARY GENTRY PUGH died Wednesday at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans. She was the daughter of RICHARD PUGH and MARY WILLIAMS. She is survived by her mother, two sisters and five brothers. BERTHA BLANCHARD of Lobdell, daughter of J. O. BLANCHARD, will marry ULYSSE P. LAFITTE at Paincourtville on 6 January at 4:30 p.m. A 9-year old boy was run over by a locomotive and killed instantly at Sweet Home. The 8-day old boy of S. O. WILLIAMS and LODOISKA MARAIS died Monday at 6 a.m.; buried at Pineville LA. (Tribune, Pollock LA)
