Legendre 1 Apr. 1905 OSCAR DUFRENE, the manager of the Labadieville bakery, drowned last Tuesday in the bayou while seining for fish. A. C. TABOR, a Thibodaux photographer, will retire in July because of failing eyesight. He will move to Covington, La. where he has purchased a farm. A little girl was born this week to the A. R. MUNSONS of Napoleonville. 22 Apr. 1905 THOMAS R. PHELPS, aged 77, died last Monday morning at the home of his son-in-law, T. J. DELAUNE, at Napoleonville. The funeral was held on Tuesday at St. Napoleon Church with burial in the church cemetery alongside his wife and daughter. He is survived by MRS. (DR.) E. T. DUGAS and MRS. A. MARQUETTE of Napoleonville and W. L. PHELPS of Jackson, Miss. MRS. _ B. PREAUX (first initial illegible) of New Orleans, the mother of MRS. R. J. LEGARDEUR, died last Sunday. 13 May 1905 LUCILLE LANDRY, daughter of Woodlawn manager ULYSSE LANDRY, married LUKE LECHE in Napoleonville. (No date given) FATHER DE WILDE officiated. The groom's attendants were his brothers, ISADORE LECHE and PAUL LECHE. The couple will reside in Wagaman, where MR. LECHE is a bookkeeper for the Willeswood Planting Company. (Most of the page was torn.) 17 June 1905 A former Assumption resident, BLAIR S. BERNARD, who has lived in Pensacola, Fla. for six years, was appointed Clerk of that city a few days ago. On the 28th. of this month, EDMOND DUGAS will wed LEDIE LANDRY. HENRY DUGAS, the foreman at J. G. LABARRE's saw mill at Grand Bayou, denies the rumor that he has deserted his wife. A baby girl was born last week to PIERRE DUPRE. She was named ROSA LEE DUPRE. LEO DAVID, son of LEON DAVID and LAURA BLANCHARD, was married at St. Philomena Church on June 6th. to OCTAVIE BLANCHARD, the daughter of ALCEE BLANCHARD and LYDIE DELAUNE. They are both of Avoca Plantation. 2 Sept. 1905 CEOLFRIDE TRAHAN died at St. Joseph Sanitarium, Fort Worth, Texas, on Aug. 25th. at age 69 from an attack of paralysis. A native of Assumption, he had been residing in Bayou Goula in Iberville Parish recently. He was in the mercantile business until 1861. Then he enlisted in the Confederate Army and was wounded in this parish in 1862. In 1868, he was in the mercantile business in Paincourtville. In 1882, he bought a sugar estate in Iberia Parish with his son-in-law, ALCIDE DAIGLE. He is survived by his wife; a son, DR. E. O. TRAHAN; two daughters, MRS. WILLIAM SUPPLE and MISS ANGELINA TRAHAN; and a brother, HON. ANATOLE TRAHAN. GEN. O. A. BULLION of Hope Villa in Ascension Parish died Tuesday. He was accidentally caught in a cotton gin belt while working on his plantation. D. GRABERT's ten-year-old daughter was killed on Tuesday, Aug. 22nd. on DR. PRICE's plantation a few miles from Lockport. While taking breakfast to her father in the field, she was attacked, beaten, and cut about the head with a knife. THEOPHILE TALBOT, aged 77, a planter on the Attakapas Canal was married on Thursday evening on his plantation to MRS. CLAIBORNE BOUDREAUX nee ESTELLINA LEBLANC, aged 62. Together they have 100 grand children and 1 great-grandchild. JOHN DOHERTY, a merchant of Lafourche Crossing, died last week of yellow fever. The seven-month-old child of HENRY HIDALGO died yesterday. News arrived this week of the death of ADA LIVAUDAIS in Mexico. She was the sister of MRS. ULYSSE B. DUGAS of Sweet Home Plantation. 9 Sept. 1905 ESTAVE HERNANDEZ, aged 67, married WIDOW AUGUSTINE LEBLANC, aged 42, at the bride's home on Westfield Plantation near Paincourtville last Monday. AUGUSTIN BEROT died in Port Barrow last Thursday night. DR. BURNS purchased the former 100-acre homestead and farm of VALMONT TALBOT of Attakapas Canal from EMILE BERGERON, who had acquired it from DONNIE TALBOT. He plans to raise cane. MR. and MRS. JOHN BOUDREAUX have welcomed a baby girl. ELSIE CARLINE BLUM, the daughter of LOUIS BLUM, was baptized last Thursday. The Valenzuela P. & B. Society expresses condolences to the family of MRS. A. A. ALLEMAN, nee CORINE ACOSTA. THOMAS A BLANCHARD, 39, died at his home in Paincourtville last Tuesday. He was the only child of S. J. BLANCHARD, who was sheriff of this parish for many terms. He was married to ALPHONSINE LEBLANC, the daughter of EMILE LEBLANC of Paincourtville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother and his five children. 16 Sept. 1905 JULES J. TALBOT, age 48, died last evening at Attakapas Canal at the home of his nephew, MYRTILE TALBOT, with whom he had been in partnership for eight years. Before that, he operated a store in Patterson, La. He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: MRS. CHARLES BOUDREAUX, MRS. VILIER HEBERT, EDGAR TALBOT, EMILE TALBOT, and WILFRED TALBOT. The funeral was held today at St. Napoleon Church. CLARA M. SCHRIEBER, the daughter of CHARLES SCHRIEBER and MATHILDE HERNANDEZ, died at her home in this parish on Monday at 4:20 P.M. at the age of 26 yrs. 5 mos. Funeral services were held at the church in Plattenville. Surviving brothers and sisters are MRS. J. F. MAUFFRAY, MRS. HARRY ALLEMAN, MISS SARAH SCHRIEBER, CHARLES SCHRIEBER, HENRY CLAY SCHRIEBER, and JOSEPH SCHRIEBER. NICHOLAS BLANCHARD, a citizen of the seventh ward died at his home on Wednesday and was buried Thursday in Paincourtville. He is survived by his wife and several children. 23 Sept. 1905 Last Tuesday in Paincourtville, LEONCE GUILLOT, the ten-year-old son of ACHILLE GUILLOT, was killed when the cart in which he was riding overturned and broke his neck. R. J. CHAUVIN, the editor of the Donaldsonville Daily Times, married CORA ESNAULT this week at the Catholic Church in that city. MAVOR TRICHE, assistant postmaster for the past year, left for Schriever on Wednesday to work at the POLMER Brothers' store. The three-year-old son of HENRY BLANCHARD of the (Attakapas) Canal died Thursday, and services were held Friday at the Canal Chapel. LAURA DOLESE, the daughter of PROF. JOHN DOLESE, is engaged to marry SAMUEL MARTINEZ of Albemarle on October 4th. at her home. 30 Sept. 1905 GEDEON MONTET, age 77 yrs. 11 mos. 16 days, died Sept. 23rd. at 5 P.M. He was born Oct. 7, 1827, the son of JOSEPH MONTET. His wife, PAULINE TRUXILLO, died in February 1886 on Aurelie Plantation. Aurelie was the name of the wife of his deceased brother, ZEPHERIN MONTET. SYLVIO DUGAS, age 19, died at 6 A.M. today at the Port Barrow Emergency Hospital. He first developed pneumonia and then yellow fever. He is survived by his father, OLEUS DUGAS of Smoke Bend (Plantation), his mother, one brother, and six sisters. The funeral was held today at 9:30 A.M. MRS. VON EYE died Monday in Labadieville at the age of 50, and the funeral was held Tuesday at that town. Her son, A. E. VON EYE, is an SPRR agent in Crowley. 7 Oct. 1905 Pioneer Editor GIANELLONI reports the arrival of a son, born on Thursday. OCTAVE BLANCHARD celebrated his 45th. birthday Thursday at his home on Laura Plantation. AMADEO BLANCHARD will marry LEDIE THIBODAUX in Labadieville on Oct. 12th. FR. MASSARDIER officiated at the wedding on last Tuesday of HEDA MAURIN of Donaldsonville to WILLIAM J. LEBLANC, an assistant cashier at People's Bank. 14 Oct. 1905 Last Saturday, TOM M. BRADFORD, age 13, son of THOMAS BRADFORD of Ascension Parish, accidently shot himself while hunting. He died soon after. FULTON ROGERS, a Thibodaux druggist and son of DR. ROGERS of Napoleonville, was married on Thursday of last week to WINIFRED DUNNING of Thibodaux. They will reside in Memphis, where he has accepted a position as druggist. 21 Oct. 1905 MRS. T. BARRILLEAUX of Poverty Point Plantation suffered a stroke last week which left her arm and leg paralyzed. She has made some improvement. A girl was born to WALTER HIMEL of Mount Lawrence (Plantation) last week, and JOSEPH BERNIARD welcomed his first born son. (No date) MAY A. RICHARD, age 14 yrs. 5 mos., died of yellow fever last Thursday at Scattery Plantation in upper Assumption, and the funeral was held in Paincourtville. She was the daughter of P. S. RICHARD. 28 Oct. 1905 ARTHUR B. COOK, bookkeeper at Baker-Wakefield Cypress Co. of Plattenville eloped Saturday to Gretna, La. with ESSIE S. BORDIS, the daughter of MRS. CORINE BORDIS of Plattenville. They will leave shortly for Florida, where they will live. The New Orleans paper reported the death of ALEXANDER MC COLLAM, a sugar planter of Ellendale Plantation in Terrebonne Parish, giving the date of death as Oct. 20th. He was unmarried. A baby girl was born to WILLIAM WOODS last week. MRS. VICTORIN TRICHE, nee ECELVINA SAVOY, died Friday, Nov. 3rd. at 8 P.M. at her home in Paincourtville. The funeral was held today at St. Elizabeth Church at 3 P.M. She was 77 years of age. She leaves 5 daughters: MRS. D. BLANCHARD, MRS. JAMES WRIGHT, MRS. ALCEE ONCALE, MRS. CLAIBORNE DUGAS, MRS. ERNEST RODRIGUE, and MRS. CHARLES L. TRICHE. CLEVELAND BERGERON of Laura Plantation will leave early next week for Jeanerette, where he will open a blacksmith and wheelwright shop. JOSEPH P. THIAC will wed FLORENCE TEMPLET of Plattenville on Nov. 3rd. at 4:30 P.M. in Plattenville. LEO SIMONEAUX, who died Saturday at his mother's home in Bruslie St. Vincent, was buried in Paincourtville. A baby boy was born to J. F. MAUFREY of Paincourtville this week. 11 Nov. 1905 Last Saturday in Paincourtville, a baby girl was welcomed at the home of A. J. LEVERT. A funeral was held, at St. Napoleon Church for HENRY SCHNATER, a carpenter from Franklin, La., who came here 4 months ago. He had worked a long time in Berwick, La. He was found dead Friday morning at the Dupaty Hotel, a victim of alcohol and antiseptic consumption. A native of Indiana, he is survived by one sister. STELLA MARQUETTE, the daughter of FRANK MARQUETTE of Plattenville, died Saturday of yellow fever. She was the third case of yellow fever at her house, but no doctor had been called until Friday. MRS. HENRY SCHLAMP, nee LENA GIUGOU, a native of this parish, died at the residence of her parents (MR. & MRS. AUGUST GIUGOU) in Napoleonville at 8 P.M. She was 20 yrs. 4 mos. of age and had been sick a long time. Her husband had a cooperage business in Assumption. She is survived by three brothers - WILFRED GIUGOU, LEONIDAS GIUGOU, LEONCE GIUGOU - and four sisters - MRS. RENE MONTET, BELLA GIUGOU, FLORENCE GIUGOU, and EUPHEMIE GIUGOU. ADOLPHE LEBLANC, aged 83 yrs. 6 mos. 15 days, died at his home 5 miles below Lockport on Saturday, Nov 4th. Burial was at Holy Savior Cemetery the following day. He was born in Ascension Parish, lived in Assumption from 1830-1855, and then moved to Lockport. His wife died 17 years ago. He is survived by the following children: MRS. CAMILLE LEBLANC, MRS. A. H. MATHERNE of Thibodaux, MRS. C. J. BARKER, MRS. RENE LEBLANC, MRS. U. J. BARRIOS, MESSRS. JOSEPH A. LEBLANC, EDWARD LEBLANC, and BEAUREGARD LEBLANC. Also surviving him are two sisters: MRS. JOSEPH DALFERES of New Orleans, and MRS. PIERRE NITZEROFF of France. The remains of VOLSIE BRAUD, who died in Assumption, were brought to Thibodaux last Monday evening for burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The deceased, who was a resident of the upper portion of this parish, was a brother of ELLIS BRAUD of our town. -- Lafourche Comet MRS. SAM PALMER of Schriever died on Nov. 2nd. at her residence there. MR. and MRS. MOTLEY of Oakley Plantation announced the birth of a daughter this week. G. DONNAUD BENTLEY, the editor of the Donaldsonville Chief plans to marry HELOISE SIMMS on Dec. 5th. at Trinity Church in New Orleans. She is the daughter of ROBERT N. SIMMS of Donaldsonville. 25 Nov. 1905 LEO GAUDIN was killed Thursday morning at the Myrtle Grove sugar factory where he was a water tender when he became caught in a shaft. The son of C. ARMAND GAUDIN, he was a resident of Crevasse Settlement. Services were held Friday morning at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Donaldsonville. 2 Dec. 1905 A Napoleonville resident, RAOUL GENTIL, who was the only son of JEAN GENTIL of Convent, La., died in Lafourche Parish last Sunday at age 40. He was employed by the Pioneer 15 years ago before he took a job with the Texas and Pacific Railroad. He is survived by his parents and his sister BLANCHE GENTIL. JOSEPH THIAC of the Napoleonville Cypress Co. married FLORENCE TEMPLET of Plattenville last Thursday at Assumption Church. She was escorted by her brother, PHILIP TEMPLET, and EMILY TEMPLET, her sister was her maid of honor. Nineteen-year-old CHARLES LANDRY, son of MAX LANDRY of Thibodaux drowned Wednesday while crossing the bayou in a boat at JEFFRIES Foundry in Thibodaux. A Negro with him drowned also. He was the nephew of ADAM LANDRY, ABEL LANDRY, and O. P. LANDRY of Napoleonville. The funeral was held on Wednesday at St. Joseph Church. SETON, a colored laborer at Napoleonville Cypress Co., was crushed to death last Wednesday while coupling cars. WILLIE E. HOWELL, JR., son of the HON. W. E. HOWELL of Lafourche, married MARIE ELOISE JUMONVILLE of New Orleans in that city on Wednesday, Nov. 22nd. They will reside in Berkley, California. A baby boy was born to NUMA BERNIARD last Saturday. MAVOR TRICHE is back in Napoleonville at the L. LEMMEL Store. 9 Dec. 1905 Widower ANTOINE LOCKER died last Saturday evening at his home on College Street in Napoleonville, and funeral services were held on Sunday at St. Napoleon Church. His children are MRS. JEAN GUINCHAU of Beaumont, MRS. EMILE DELAUNE of Jeanerette, MRS. ADRIAN FAGAN of Beaumont, MRS. JULES GAYRAL, MRS. PAUL GEUPET, LOUIS LOCKER, and EDMOND LOCKER. Cleveland Plantation, 500 acres on the east side of the bayou near Tallieu, was sold to JOHN MARKS, HONORE ONCALE, ED. J. LANDRY, CAMILLE TEMPLET, and GUS TEMPLET by H. FROST of Thibodaux and OSCAR A FOLSE of Assumption. It will be managed by ONCALE and LANDRY. 16 Dec. 1905 WALTER LEWIS, age 18, was killed instantly on Elm Hall Plantation last Wednesday by a carrier feeder. He was the son of MONROE LEWIS, the colored jailer of Napoleonville. Burial was on Thursday. DR. O. J. THIBODAUX sold his drug store on Front Street last Wednesday to C. J. WORTHAM. SAMUEL LEVY will wed HATTYE ROSENTHAL in New Orleans on St. Charles Avenue on Sunday, Dec. 17th. Her father, J. U. ROSENTHAL, died only a few weeks ago on the very day that had been appointed for her wedding. -- New Orleans Item 23 Dec. 1905 DAVE R. BURNS, a citizen of Napoleonville for over 12 years, sold his barber shop at Dupaty House to CAMILLE HEBERT. His home on Jefferson Street was sold to WILLIE CLAUSE. MICHEL NAQUIN, a Labadieville carpenter, died last Sunday at his home. Burial was held on Monday in Labadieville. ADOLPHE TALBOT, son of VALMONT TALBOT of Laura, La., died of typhoid fever at his home in Assumption Parish on June 7th. He was born June 5, 1885, on the Attakapas Canal. At age 17, he entered Holy Cross College in New Orleans. In 1904, he took a job as clerk and bookkeeper in Patterson, La. but returned to school in January 1905. BIRTHS: A boy was born last Sunday to HECTOR LACROIX of Raceland, and a girl was born to THOMAS S. COMEAUX. (No date) 30 Dec. 1905 BIRTHS: The homes of JOHN BLANCHARD of Plattenville and ALPHONSE BLANCHARD welcomed sons, both born last Sunday. 6 Jan. 1906 GEORGE BELLOCQ, druggist and bookkeeper at S. PREJEAN's plantation store at Belle Alliance, died Jan. 1st. At one time he managed the plantation store of J. KOCK. He leaves a wife and 3 children. Burial was in New Orleans. COL. C. HARRISON PARKER, the president of the Board of Control of the state penitentiary, will inspect the four state plantations which are worked by convicts: Oakley, Monticello, Hope, and Angola. DR. GEORGE SIMS married LILLY KITTREDGE, daughter of JOSEPH KITTREDGE, last Monday, New Year's Day, at The Oaks, the home of her father. FR. RAVOIRE performed the ceremony. Early this week, a daughter was born to CLARENCE SAVOY of Paincourtville, and on New Year's eve MR. AND MRS. JAMES GILBERT welcomed a boy. On Tuesday, Jan. 16th. at 3 P.M. CLAIRE FALTEMAN, daughter of C. J. FALTEMAN, will marry AMBROISE BLANCHARD of Laura at her home. 13 Jan. 1906 A baby boy has been born to PROF. and MRS. L. BREITENMOSER. PHILIP J. LEBLANC of Assumption Parish is to wed ANGELE LOLIGER of New Orleans on Wednesday, Feb. 7th. in New Orleans. MR. LEBLANC works at the U. S. Sub-Treasury Office. 20 Jan. 1906 MRS. AMADEO GUILLOT, nee PALMIRE AUCOIN, a native of this parish, died last Wednesday at 9 P.M. at her Plattenville home. She was 52 yrs. 9 mos. 16 days old. She was the mother of MRS. PROSPER BLANCHARD, LIZZIE GUILLOT, ROSA GUILLOT, MICHEL GUILLOT. The funeral was held Thursday evening at Assumption Catholic Church. JOHN MARKS learned Thursday of the death of his cousin, ALFRED PARKER of Hutton, Essex, England. JOE DELAUNE of Albemarle left this week for Patterson, La. to open a blacksmith shop. His first child, a son, was born in New Orleans on Friday to GEORGE S. GUION, and last Monday a boy was born to STEPHEN DOLESE of Avoca. ARISTIDE ARCENEAUX has sold his 75-acre plantation, located a few miles below Napoleonville between C. H. LANDRY and ALCEE DELAUNE. He moved to Lake Charles, where he bought a dairy. HENRY BOUDREAUX of Klotzville, the son of R. BOUDREAUX, will marry MISS LUCILLE LANDRY, the daughter of LUC LANDRY of Belle Rose, on Feb. 8th. LEON DELAUNE of Napoleonville, mixologist at the MARQUETTE Saloon, will marry IDA BLANCHARD of Avoca Plantation on the 24th. of Jan. at St. Philomena Church at 4 P.M. She is the daughter of GREGOIRE BLANCHARD. SAM LAUVE, JR. of Delcambre (La.) will wed JULLIET ROUTIER of Laura on Monday, Jan. 22nd. at St. Napoleon Church at 10 A.M. VINCENT VALERY was married last Monday at the Catholic parsonage in Napoleonville to EMMA RUMPF. They will reside in Napoleonville. MRS. D. GUELFO left for Lafourche Crossing Friday to attend the funeral of her niece, MRS. STEPHENS, who is the daughter of ARESTILE AUCOIN. 3 Feb. 1906 WILLIAM WHITMELL PUGH, born Jan. 18, 1811, Woodville, North Carolina, Bertie County, died last Tuesday, Jan. 30, 1906, at the age of 95. He was the son of MARY HILL and DR. WHITMELL PUGH, who was a surgeon in the War of 1812. MR. PUGH came to this parish in 1819. He was the owner of Mount Lawrence, Himalaya, and Woodlawn plantations. His first, marriage was to WILLIAM ANNE THOMPSON in 1831, from which union the following children were born: MARY FLOWER, deceased wife of W. P. FLOWER; MISS A. F. PUGH; W. W. PUGH, JR.; and ROBERT L. PUGH, deceased. His second marriage was to JOSEPHINE NICHOLLS, sister of CHIEF JUSTICE F. T. NICHOLLS. Their children are HON. E. N. PUGH of Donaldsonville, DR. T. B. PUGH of Napoleonville, JUDGE P. S. PUGH of Crowley, and Attorney L. H. PUGH of Bertie in this parish. A daughter was born last Tuesday in Lake Charles to E. C. ARCENEAUX, a former Assumption Parish resident. WILLIE N. BERGERON of Little Texas Plantation bought the C. H. LANDRY store there. ANATOLE GROS of Klotzville will marry ADA BROUSSARD, the daughter of DUPRE "BABE" BROUSSARD, also of Klotzville Thursday, Feb. 15th. at 4 P.M. T. DURNO DYER, son of T. J. DYER and a bookkeeper at Reserve (La.), will marry at St. Napoleon Church next Thursday, Feb. 8th., to ALLIE MUNSON, daughter of A. R. MUNSON of Trinity Plantation. MATHILDE FALCON married ATHENOL BOUDREAUX last Monday at St. Napoleon Ch. The home of DR. PAINCHAUD at Klotzville burned last Wednesday night. 10 Feb. 1906 This Wednesday, a girl was born to MR. AND MRS. EUGENE ROGER. JESSIE DYER of Napoleonville is now teaching at St. Rose. ERNEST LANDRY, a salesman for the J. A. DALFERES Store in charge of the peddling wagon on Belle Alliance, died last night, Feb. 9th., and was buried in Paincourtville this afternoon. 17 Feb. 1906 Notice of bankrupcy sale for MRS. CAMILLE DELAUNE, held on Feb. 12th. MRS. DELAUNE operated a store. E. O. MIRE of Georgia Plantation has moved to Lafourche Parish. 24 Feb. 1906 JULES BERTIN, formerly of Napoleonville and now in Abbeville, where he operates a bakery, will marry MRS. EDNA VANCAN of Abbeville on Feb. 26th. In Brule St. Vincent last Tuesday, a girl was born at the home of MR. AUGUSTIN SIMONEAUX. EDGAR BERGERON of the Canal, the son of LUSIGNAN BERGERON will marry BELLA LEBLANC, the daughter of EDGARD LEBLANC of Foley Plantation on Monday, Feb. 26th. at St. Napoleon Church. The wedding ball will be held at ULYSSE BERGERON's Eureka Hall. MRS. RICHARD L. PUGH, widow and daughter of JOHN WILLIAMS, died on Feb. 20th. in upper Lafourche Parish and will be buried tomorrow at Madewood Plantation. 10 Mar. 1906 CAPTAIN LOVINCY HIMEL, aged 74, died Friday, March 9th. at his Palestine Plantation. He was the brother of OCTAVE HIMEL, DRAUZIN HIMEL, CLAIRVILLE HIMEL, OVILLE HIMEL, and MRS. MAGLOIRE BOURGEOIS. A Confederate veteran, he was a member of Company C, 26th. Louisiana Regiment, and was at the siege at Vicksburg. He lived most of his life in the Fourth Ward near Labadieville.
