Cox. - Mrs. Thomas D. Cox, nee Sarah Ann House, died at the family home on St. Philomene plantation, near Barton, at 5 o'clock p. m. Sunday, July 29, aged 79 years, 11 months and 23 days. her candle of life had burned to the socket, and while her loved ones and friends realized the inevitable end was near, none the less the extinguishment of the slender flame shrouded many hearts in gloom and caused a pall of desolation to descend upon the community in which she lived. The funeral took place Monday afternoon, services being held at the Episcopal church in Napoleonville at 3:30 o'clock, after which internment was made in the burial ground nearby. Mrs. Cox was universally revered and respected for her many admirable qualities. The trials of life and reverses of fortune she sustained with dignity and honor, and her pure and noble heart was ever the shrine of those pre-eminent virtues which should always adorn the Christian matron. Besides her grief-stricken husband, Mrs. Cox leaves two sons, Thos. D. Cox, Jr., of St. Philomene plantation, and Willie Cox, field manager of the Peytavin plantation adjoining Donaldsonville, both of whom stand high in the esteem and respect of their fellows because of the sterling character that each possesses, inherited from both paternal and maternal ancestors. the Chief joins with hosts of others in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
