[volume] (Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, November 02, 1907, Image 3 Death of Ulgere Prejean. - Ulgere Prejean, a native and life-long resident of Assumption parish, died at his home on the west bank of Bayou Lafourche, about five miles below Donaldsonville, at 6 o'clock a. m. Tuesday, the 29th ult., aged eighty-one years, eight months and seventeen days. His remains were laid to rest in the local Catholic cemetery at 9 o'clock Wednesday forenoon, after impressive services at the Church of the Sacred Heart, the funeral obsequies being attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. Mr. Prejean was for many years one of the largest and most successful sugar planters of this section of the state, and was noted for his strength of character and attractive personality. He led the life of an upright, honorable Christian gentleman during his long and notable career, and earned the highest esteem and unqualified respect of all with whom he came in contact. The surviving relatives include a widow, three sons, S. Prejean of Half-Way plantation, and Elphege and Jack Prejean of Plattenville; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph Beille of Port Barrow, Mrs. Emile Bourgeois of Plaquemine, Mrs. Adam Ruiz of Brusly Maurin, and Mrs. Leonard Smith of Magnolia plantation, Plaquemines parish; three sisters, all residents of Lafourche parish; fifty- two grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. To these afflicted ones The Chief, in common with the host of friends of the deceased patriarch, begs leave to tender sincere and profound sympathy.
