The venerable Father Cyprien Venissat, curate of St. Philomene's catholic 
church, Labadieville, Assumption parish, died on Thursday, October 3rd., aged 
76 years. The venerable Father built the church under whose altar he was 
buried, and served as pastor of said church for 34 years. His death is deeply 
felt and has cast a gloom over the entire parish. The lamentable Father was 
buried Thursday of the past week, with the solemn and impressive ceremonies of 
the Catholic Church. Three thousand five hundred persons attended the burial 
of this loved old Father.
