Vives, a native of Assumption parish, died at Mineral Wells, Texas, Monday at 11 o'clock p.m., aged 49 years and 9 months. His remains were brought to Donaldsonville Wednesday afternoon on the 3:05 Texas and Pacific east-bound train and were taken to the family residence on the St. Cecilia plantation, from whence the funeral was held Thursday morning with services at the Church of the Assumption at Plattenville. Mr. Vives had only recently gone to Mineral Wells in the hope of bettering his health and while his death was not entirely unexpected the knowledge of it came as a distinct shock to his many relatives and friends in this and Assumption parishes. The funeral was one of the largest ever witnessed in Assumption and was a beautiful token of the esteem in which he was held by the people of that parish. Mr. Vives leaves - besides an aged mother, Mrs. Numa Vives - a young wife, who was a Miss Tete; three children; three sisters, Mrs. John Jumonville, of New Orleans; Mrs. Leufroy Landry, of Iberville, and Mrs. St. B. Valeton, of Assumption; one brother, Dr. Numa Vives, and numerous other relatives. To the grief-stricken members of his immediate family The Chief wishes to tender assurance of sincere sympathy.
