Cleveland Fruge'. ------------------------------- Earl Edwards, Judge, Twelfth Judicial District, Marksville, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, was appointed on October 27, 1960; he was elected at the general election in November, 1960; he was returned to office without opposition in November of 1966; his present term ends December of 1972. EDUCATION: He was graduated from Marksville High School, Marksville, Louisiana; he received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1930; he received a Bachelor of Laws degree there in 1933; he received his Juris Doctor's degree from Louisiana State University in 1968; he attended the National College of State Trial Judges at the University of Nevada in 1969. Judge Edwards was engaged in the practice of law continuously, from September of 1933 until his elevation to the Bench. FAMILY: He is the son of Flavius C. Edwards, now deceased, and Corinne Normand Edwards. He was born December 1, 1907 in the rural community of Mansura, Louisiana. He is married to Doris Barbara Smith of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who is also a graduate of Louisiana State University. They have three daughters, Frances, Edith and Ruth, all graduates of Louisiana State University. SOCIAL, RELIGIOUS, COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: Member of Tau Kappa Alpha, National honorary debating fraternity; committeeman and executive Board Member, Boy Scouts of America, continuously for thirty-five years; holder of the Silver Beaver Award and St. George's Medal for distinguished service with boys; received the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation Freedom and Youth Education Award in 1967 for "outstanding service in fostering and promoting basic ideals of a Christian America, based on constitutional government"; he is a Roman Catholic; a member of the Knights of Columbus continuously for over thirty-five years, having held various offices in that organization; he is a member of the Lions Club, continuously, over thirty years; he is an active participant in the Junior Deputies Program in Avoyelles Parish since its organization in 1970, received a plaque for outstanding service in that organization. He has been government appeal agent for the local Draft Board for over fifteen years; he was twice elected district attorney in his parish, serving from 1941 through 1948; he is a regular participant in seminars for law enforcement schools at Louisiana State University; he is a member of the Avoyelles Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He is a member of the American Judi- cature Society, of the National Council Juvenile Court Judges; he is a member of the Committee on Law Enforcement of the Louisiana State Bar Association; he is and has been active in the affairs of his church, his community and his fraternal organizations. HOBBIES: Hunting and fishing; woodwork and shop; Camellia and Amaryllis culture.
