The above plantation being 10 x 40 arpents sold for $100 Another sale yielded an additional $104 P. 153: William Hayes, deceased 9 Dec 1819 - Estate Inventory - Total Valuation: $3010.95 Includes a cotton gin owned in partnership with George Hays, Esqr. P. 155: same 18 Oct 1819 - Last Will and Testament of William Hays Proven in Open Court on 3 Nov 1819 Mentions: Daughter, Nancy and Son, George, who is not yet of age (under 21) Brother, Thomas Hays, is appointed Curator Father, George Hays Bequeaths his (William’s) part of the cotton gin in company with my father to his wife (not named). Witnesses: Abner Garrett, Lewis White, George Hays, Thomas B. Dougherty P. 255-265: Joseph Holmes, deceased Inventory, not dated. Appears to have some page(s) missing. Total Valuation: $5834.50 Includes a tract of land of 800 arpents on Red River valued at $2000 and a tract on Wiggins Creek in Rapides Parish (north of land on Red River formerly belonging to Uriah Wiggins) containing 800 arpents valued at $1600 28 Feb 1820 - Estate Sale - Mrs. Elizabeth Holmes (his widow ?) bought a mulatto slave man. Petition of Thomas Patterson, not dated: He is a creditor and applies to be appointed Administrator. He also wishes to conduct another Estate Sale, since the Plantation only brought the highest bid of $1000 and was declined as an acceptable bid. P. 269-272: same 8 Jun 1807 - Estate Inventory - Done in the County of Rapide, Territory of Orleans Appraisers: Reubin White and King Holstein 17 Apr 1807 - Elizabeth Holmes relinquishes her right of Administration to her son, Thomas Patterson (from a previous marriage ?) 21 Mar 1820 - Letter by Thomas Patterson, written from Mount Vernon to Avoyelles Parish Judge Cornelius Voorhies, requesting he obtain a copy of the Estate Inventory. Inventory includes a $105.56 promissory note drawn on Uriah Wiggins, Senr. for merchandise on Wiggins’ account with Holmes. P. 349-350: Joseph Joffrion fils, deceased 2 Oct 1821 - Last Will and Testament - Proven in Open Court 7 Nov 1821 P. 513-515: Estate of George Hays, deceased 5 Mar 1823 - Estate Inventory - Total Valuation: $3149.93 1823, otherwise not dated - Petition of James & Thomas Hays of Pointe Coupee. States that they are the legitimate sons and heirs of George Hays, Esqr. - Request to be appointed Co-Administrators. P. 517: Estate of Reuben Parks, deceased 8 Oct 1822 - Estate Inventory - Total Valuation: $12419.50 Appraisers: Jacob Keller and William Hargrove Taken at the residence of the deceased, items pointed-out by Charity Johnson Parks, his surviving widow. 7 Apr 1823 - Estate Sale - Plantation sold to Madame Charity Parks. P. 524: same 5 Oct 1822 - Petition of Charity Parks, shows she bore 4 children, all minors: John, Lucretia, Washington and Charles Parks. Lucretia and Charles have since died (since Reuben’s death ?) P. 525: same 10 Mar 1823 - Family Meeting - Composed of Charity Parks, her sons in-law: William Davis and Vernon Matthews. Friends: John Stafford and Andrus Furphey (that’s how it’s spelled) P. 526: same 7 Apr 1823 - Tutor’s Bond - Matthew Vernon with James Bowie (the Alamo Hero) as his security give bond for the appointment of Vernon as Tutor to the minor, John Parks.
