All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Dr. Wilmore Joseph Bordelon, age 94, former Professor of Education at Louisiana Technical Institute, passed away at 7:30 p.m. on March 11, 1999 at his home in Valley Village, California. Born on September 30, 1904 in Moncla, Louisiana, Will Bordelon was a graduate of Marksville High School and entered the field of education in 1925, teaching in a four-room school in Vick. After marrying Mary Willard Messick in 1927, he left a clear trail of advancement and contribution in the state of Louisiana. In 1927 he was principal of a four-room elementary school at Brouillette. Then, in 1928, he became principal of the Palmetto Junior High School in St. Landry Parish, and in 1935 was the first parish school supervisor of instruction in St. James Parish. From 1937 to 1947, he was a faculty member at the University High School at LSU. After receiving the Doctor of Philosophy degree from the LSU Graduate School in 1947, Dr. Bordelon taught undergraduate and graduate classes at Louisiana Tech until his retirement in 1969. Among his many achievements, in 1954 he was appointed by the U.S. Office of Education in Washington, DC to serve as consultant to the Ministry of Education in Cambodia on a nine week mission. In 1975, he was selected by the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette as an outstanding educator for his contributions to the field of Education. In 1990, his wife of 63 years passed away and since then Dr. Bordelon had been living with his only son, and caretaker, Maybin (Ben) M. Bordelon. Dr. Bordelon is survived by both his son Ben and only daughter, Margie M. Bourgeois of Santa Fe, New Mexico and five grandchildren: Jeanne-Marie Rachlin of San Jose, California, Rose Ann Jolly of Kansas City, Kansas, Alfred J. Bourgeois of Durham, North Carolina, Benjamin J. Bourgeois of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Marcia L. Patterson of Kingwood, Texas and eight great-grandchildren.
