Mrs. Keel passed away Monday, January 11, 2010, in Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder. A native of Vernon Parish, Louisiana, she lived in Keithville, Louisiana, for approximately the past 27 years. Mrs. Keel is survived by three sons, Ottis Keel and wife Patsy of Joshua, TX, Thomas Keel, and George Keel and wife Joyce, both of Keithville, LA; daughter, Melonee Smith and husband William "Rooter" of Leesville, LA; twenty-two grandchildren,thirty-three great grandchildren, and fourteen great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank & Wilma Simmons and one bother Charles Steele Simmons, Sr. January 13, 2010 Gordon Ralph Condit Gordon Ralph Condit, 91, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010, after a well- lived life. He was born in Spring Valley, Wisconsin, on February 22, 1918, the only child of Litta Fern Springer Condit and Ralph George Condit. He was married to Maxine Retrum on August 3, 1946 in River Falls, Wisconsin. Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Maxine. He is survived by his son John Michael Condit and his wife Linda Faulkner Condit, their son David Devin Condit, his wife Eileen May Condit, and their sons Tyler Henderson Condit and Carter Winston Condit, all of Houston, Texas; a daughter Mary Kathryn Condit Scoggins and her husband Gene Douglas Scoggins of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and her son Brian Patrick Trouard of Houston, Texas; and a daughter Carol Ann Condit Hughes and her husband Daniel Kenneth Hughes of Espanola, New Mexico and their daughter Stephanie Ann Hughes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Michael O'Neal McHugh Michael O'Neal McHugh, 62, of DeRidder, LA, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010, in Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Born in Atlanta, GA, he was a former resident of Snellville, GA, and moved to DeRidder two years ago. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Viet Nam during the Viet Nam War. He is survived by his Loving Wife, Martha McHugh of DeRidder, LA; son, Gary Michael McHugh of Snellville, GA; daughter, Marcianne Westbrook McHugh of Athens, GA; his dog Anabel and other relatives and friends. Mr. McHugh was cremaated. Loretta Gott Schultz Loretta Gott Schultz ended the final chapter in her wonderful life on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at her home surrounded by family and friends after a 13-year battle with breast cancer. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2010 in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille, in Lafayette. She donated her body to medical research at Tulane Medical Center. Loretta was born in Many, LA, the daughter of Lyle and Eva Crook. Days after her birth, her father, a U.S. Army Lieutenant, was killed during World War II in southern France in August 1944, receiving a Silver Star for his efforts to protect his men against an enemy sniper. She was twice widowed, first with husband Larry Gott, father of their two children; and then with Kevin Gayle. She married Bruce Schultz in 1997. Loretta is survived by her husband, Bruce of Lafayette; two children, Beverly Gott of DeRidder and John Gott and his wife Monya of DeRidder; granddaughters, Eva and Morgan Gott, both of DeRidder; a stepfather, Rudy Menga of Boca Raton, FL; mother-in-law, Josephine Schultz of Denham Springs; and her two loyal companions, Gopher and Bear. January 26, 2010 Sister Rita Deschenes Holyoke- Sister Rita Deschenes, (Marie Xavier), beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph in her 55th year, died at Mont Marie Health Care Center on January 25, 2010. She was born in Fall River, MA, the daughter of Albert and Bermonde (Lemieux) Deschenes. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of LePuy in Fall River in 1955 from St. Jean Baptiste Parish in Fall River and became a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield when the two Congregations merged in 1974. In addition to her Sisters in Community, Sister is survived by her brothers Robert, Albert and Paul and her sisters Loretta Gonyon, Alice Beauchesne, Claudette St. Laurent, Lucille Tarvis, Pauline Birge, Anne Mayers and Irene Deschenes. She was preceded by her parents and sister, Gloria Lambright. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 in the Chapel of Hixson Funeral Home of DeRidder. Rev. Roy Lee Johnson will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Cypress Cemetery in DeRidder under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Jackie Smith Jackie Smith, 72, of DeRidder, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010 in DeRidder. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in DeRidder, La. Reverend Mike McLauren will officiate and interment will follow at Blue Branch Cemetery in Pitkin, La. Jackie was born in Allen Parish, La, the only child of Earl and Irene (Durand) Smith of Pitkin. He grew to adulthood in the Pitkin area, where he graduated from Fairview High School and wed Peggy Deason. Jackie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Deason Smith of DeRidder; daughter Phyllis and son-in-law Matthew Root of Temecula, CA; daughter Kimberly and son-in-law Stanley McDonald of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren Andrew and Caroline Root of Temecula, CA; and grandchildren Samuel, Sarah and Ian McDonald of Shreveport, LA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Irene Smith of Pitkin, La; and an infant son, Jack Walt.
