Edgar Honea Loses Life In Altercation Monday A smoldering series of arguments between two local families suddenly flared into action Monday night, resulting in the death of Thomas Edgar Honea, 28. According to Sheriff Paul Stark, Honea was shot through the heart with a 12 gauge shot gun by Harold Austin about 6:40 p.m. Austin is being held in the parish jail after being charged with murder. The shooting took place at Austin's home on the Lake Charles-DeRidder Hwy. Sheriff Stark gave this account of the fatal gunplay: The two families had been at odds for some time, and Monday evening Honea went next door and stood just outside Austin's front yard, yelling for Austin to come outside to "settle this." Ausin, seeing who it was, went back for his gun, walked to the corner of his yard and shot Honea, the sheriff related. The inquest, held by Beauregard Parish Coroner Dr. S.T. Roberts, stated that Honea "came to his death by a shot fired by Harold Austin." The slain man was not armed, Dr. Roberts said. Sheriff Stark said that Austin gave himself up after the shooting. Austin, 29, is married and has one child. Funeral services for Honea were held Wednesday at three p.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Farley Green. Interment was in Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of Hixson's funeral home. A lifetime resident of Beauregard Parish, he is survived by his wife (Pearl McCullogh), two childern, his mother, Mrs. Mary Honea; and the following brothers and sisters: Walter Honea, Columbus Honea, Collin Honea, Tanner Honea, Mrs. Lillie Bailey, Willie Honea, Mrs. Leona Watson, Mrs. Fannie Bass, all of DeRidder; and Ray Honea of Port Arthur.
