A native of DeRidder, he was a graduate of the USL where he was a charter member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and a member of the Arnold Air Society. He served in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command, attaining the rank of captain. While in Louisiana, he was active in the Republican Party and the campaigns of Congressman Dave Treen. In Louisiana, he began his 36- year career with Curtis 1000 Inc., a supplier of printed products in Atlanta, from which he retired as president. In Atlanta he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and served on the Board of Federation of Independent Colleges. Survivors are his wife, Shirley Barentine; two sons, W.S. (Barry) Barentine Jr. and Richard Barentine; three daughters, Beth Worthington,Lynne B., Will and Katherine Barentine;, and five grandchildren. A native of Nelsonville, Mo., and a resident of DeRidder most of his life, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked about 20 years as the director of finance for the city of DeRidder and was a member of the DeRidder Lions Club, in which he was secretary for about 20 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of DeRidder where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and a member of the Finance Board. Survivors include two daughters, Frances B. Cooley and Sue B. A native of Sunset, he lived in Westlake 49 years and retired from PPG Industries. He graduated from Union Theological Seminary of New Orleans and received a doctorate degree from Bible Institute in Alamo, Tenn. In 1970, he became an instructor of the Youth Department of the National Convention under the leadership of Rev. J.C. Sams. He became Youth Advisor of the Louisiana State Convention in 1970. In 1997, he retired from the State Youth Convention. He was also a member of the Evangelical Board of the Louisiana Home and Foreign Baptist State Convention, where he served as chairman. He served as pastor of True Light Baptist Church from 1967-1970, Good Hope Baptist Church from 1970-1983, and Sweet Home Baptist Church in DeRidder. He organized Greater Ebernezer Baptist Church in 1983 and served as an officer of the Baptist Ministers Union, the New Light District Association and was instructor for the Baptist Ministers School of Religion. Survivors include his wife, Leona Brooks of Westlake; two daughters, Mrs. Monica Banks of Lake Charles and Wanda Brooks Rideau of Houston; two brothers, the Rev.
