A native of Chatham, he lived in Sugartown before moving to DeQuincy in 1928. After attending LSU, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years and retired as DeQuincy postmaster in 1972. During that time he served in the U.S. Navy in World War 11. He was a member of DeQuincy United Methodist Church, a leader of Boy Scout Troop 101, and a lifetime member of the American Legion. Survivors are his wife, Minnie Merle Flanders Douglas; two sons, Dr. Samuel 0. Douglas of Columbia, S.C., and Frank F. Douglas of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. J.N. (Tauvee) Farque of DeRidder and Mrs. A.R. (Peggy) Dixson of Del Rio, Texas; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the DeQuincy United Methodist Church, the family said.
