A native of Verden, Okla., she was a retired sales clerk for J.C. Penney's in Shreveport and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Shreveport. Survivors include one son, H. Kamal Kathey of Leesville; one sister, Joann Meadow Holding of Chickasha, Okla.; four grand-children; and two great-grandchildren. A native of Elizabeth, he had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was a welder for H.B. Zachary and was engaged to marry Linda Carroll of Rosepine. A native of Glenmora, he was administrator of Baton Rouge General Hospital from 1967-1982 and was a real estate developer and businessman. A graduate of Louisiana College, he was a past chairman and member of the college's Board of Directors. He was a Southern Baptist deacon for 58 years in various churches, served on the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Board and was the first president of the Federation of Churches and Synagogues of Baton Rouge. He served as state representative for Jeff Davis Parish from 1952-1960, was state director of Public Works from 1960-63 and was a candidate for governor in 1963. He was Southwest Louisiana vice president of the Calcasieu Area Boy Scouts of America, president of the Jennings Kiwanis Club and a charter member of Fellowship of Christians and Jew in Baton Rouge. Survivors are his wife, Edith Killfore Kirkpatrick; two sons Thomas Killgore Kirkpatrick and C. Kris Kirkpatrick, both of Baton Rouge; one daughter, Edith Kay Kirkpatrick of Baton Rouge; one brother, Truett Kirkpatrick of Lake Charles; and five grandchildren. A native of North Little Rock, Ark., he lived in Lake Charles since 1956. He graduated from North Little rock high school and received his bachelor of science degree from Arkansas State Teachers College (University of Central Arkansas) and his master of science degree and Ph.D. from Northern Colorado University. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a teacher, basketball coach, and superintendent of schools in Hermitage, Ark. from 1949-55. He taught at the Old Gillis High School in Moss Bluff in 1955. From 1956-85 he was a professor in the Education Department at McNeese State University. While at McNeese, he was in charge of the Student Teaching Program, head of the Department of Secondary Education, Assistant Dean of Education, and head of the Education Graduate School. He was best known for teaching Philosophy of Education and Principleship classes. At McNeese he served as chairman of the Ambassadors Program, a scholarship program for top students to represent the University at various University functions. Upon his retirement, he was the head of the Department of Administration and Supervision. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa national honor society for educators and a member of the Southern Association for Schools and Colleges. His awards included the McNeese President's Cup for Outstanding Educator, 20-year pin from McNeese Alumni Association for Outstanding Work, Lifetime Administrators and Teachers Certificate, and, upon his retirement, he was named as Professor Emeritus. A deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church, he was a Louisiana high school basketball official for many years. A member of the Rose Society and a Rosarian. the Southwest Rose Society dedicated their annual show to him in 1995. Survivors include his wife, Thelma Meharq Lyons; one son, Robert Scott Lyons of Lake Charles; two brothers, Harvey Lyons of Harden, Texas, and Neal Lyons of Houston, Texas; one sister, Mildred Cash of North Little Rock; and four grandchildren.
