After graduating from Northwestern State University, he began his career in the oil and gas industry with Richardson-Bass in Fort Worth, Texas, and continued with Union Texas Petroleum and Allied Chemical Company, from which he retired before moving to Merryville. He was president and co-founder of Tra-R Inc. Active in the community, he served as a town alderman for eight years and was on the Beauregard Parish Airport Board.
