Davis born S.Car. 1824, died Arcadia La. 1895. Married Lucinda LANUM, born 1822, in Bienville Parish, 1850. Lucinda died 1863 at Arcadia. Had son, Sam Davis, born 8 Apr 1858, died 20 Dec 1933. Buried at Mt. Calm. Sam married Willie Lou MYRICK, born 1864, Arcadia, died 1920, Arcadia. Nine children: 1. Bert Davis married Ella STEWART, 2. Don Davis died 1963, 3.Jack Davis married Reita WADE, 4. Ena Davis died 1973. Married Robert QUIGLES, 5. Jessie Davis married Joseph T. REEVES. She died 1962, 6. Jewel Davis married Alfred N. JONES, 7. Velma Davis married Charles B. GRAYSON, 8.Carroll Davis married Lucille FORD. He died 1971, 9. Claude Davis died 1972. DAVIS, Dr. Benjamin Elliot Dr. Davis came to East Point La. in 1840. It was then in Natchitoches Parish, later Red River Parish. Born 10 Nov 1805 N. Car., married in Thomaston Ga, 4 Jan 1826, Lucindy BROOKS, born 1 July 1805 N. Car. They already had 6 or 7 children, 5 more were born in La. They came through Ala. to Ark. where they stayed a short time before moving on to La. Dr. Davis was also a Methodist minister, was a circuit rider 16 years. Children: William Martin (12 Mar 1828 Ga), Wilburn Midas (1830 Ga.), Vines Morgan (1831 Ga.) married Martha Jane WHITE, had 4 children, Martha Ann (1832 - died in childhood), S. Jackson (1834), Benjamin Warren (1836), John Chappel (1838) married 1st Tommy DAVIS, married 2nd Ida JONES, married 3rd Damie ADAMS. Josephine (1840) married Thomas WIMBERLY, Theodore Melvin (1842) married Mattie CARR, Richard F. (1845), Wesley (1846), Archibald Whitfield (1849) married Mary Frances BRYAN. (submitted by Dorothy Davis Nettles) DAVIS, Henry Jefferson Born 6-22-1852, died 12-20-1884, married 1874 to Eliza WIMBERLY who was born 7-20-1856, died 2-29-1928. Five children: Louella "Wella" (1875 - 1955) married Henry GIDDENS (1873 - 1959) 6 children; Emily Alberta (1877 - 1947) married William Leonidas "Lonnie" BAILIFF, 1 child; Willie Jane (1879 - 1965) married William Bert CONLY, 4 children ; Henry Martin (1881 - ) married Jeffer McGRAW, 5 children; Alice Mae (1884 - 1958?) married Joe Bryant REGAN, 3 children. Henry Jefferson died aged 32 from pneumonia, buried Wimberly Cem. Near Ringgold, La. Eliza never remarried. She is buried by H.J. DAVIS, Herbert Emil "Hub" was born 1 May 1894, died 1 June 1950. Married Ludie MATHEWS d/o Robert Mathews and Rachel Ellendor WOOD. Seven children: Bobbie Lavinia married Earl MATHEWS; Hazel Rachel married "Hub" McCLELLAND, died in childbirth; Albert Wesley married Frances WILKES; Elsie Ruth married Gordon R. WALKER; Jimmie Herbert married Betty J. THORNTON; Dorothy Lee married Jimmie Joe NETTLES. Herbert is buried in Pleasant Grove Cem. Ringgold La. Enlisted Dec. 27 1861, Camp Roman La, 23 years old. Present on all roles to Dec. 1863. Roll for January to April 30, 1864, absent. Sent to hospital, Marietta Ga. March 3rd 1864. Since furloughed for 60 days by Medical board. Rolls from May 1864 to February 1865, present.Roll for March and April 1865, present. Roll for March and April 1865, absent. (?) Captured at Spanish Fort, Alabama, 8 April 1865. Federal rolls of prisoners of war captured Spanish Fort Ala., April 8 1865. Received at Ship Island Mississippi April 10th 1865. Transferred to Vicksburg Mississippi May 1st 1865. Paroled at Camp Townsent, May 6th 1865. DAVIS, Walter Wesley Born 1867, Louisiana, s/o William Martin Davis and Mary Emily SMYTHE. Father killed shortly after Civil War, children sent to various relatives. When Walter's older brother, Henry Jefferson Davis married Eliza WIMBERLY, Walter lived with them until he was an adult. He married ca 1885 Nancy "Nanny" Lavinia MONZINGO. (She had brother Ellis, sister Eliza who married Webb PERRYMAN) Walter and Nanny's 1st child Lydia Amanda, born Jan 1887, married Henry Clinton BOYET, 2nd child John Wesley died ca age 11, L. Durward, 3rd child, born 21 August 1891 in Webster Parish, married Blanche Cordelia MILLER, married 2nd Arrie Hinton VICE, 4th child Herbert Emil born 1 May 1894, also graves in Friendship cemetery for 3 children of Walter and Nanny's who died before age 1 year: Emily 1888, Nettie 1886, and R.D. "Buddy" 1898. Nanny died 10 november 1898, buried in Dubberly La (Friendship cemetery) Walter married 2nd Gertrude EVANS, d/o Abe and Ann EVANS. They had 6 children: Walter Gerald married Ovie Estelle Thompson, James Lewis married Pauline KENDRICKS, Lloyd Martin married Lennis FRANKLIN, Jewell married James Ezra MATHEWS, Lois Alma married Leslie Robert Rushing, Ruth died ca age 13. Gertrude died and Walter married for 3rd time to widow with 2 children, Rachael Ellendor WOOD MATHEWS. He married 4th Anna DAVIS. He died May 1944 and buried at Delhi La. Married 1st Mary Emily SMYTHE, also born Georgia. 4 sons: Henry Jefferson born 1853, William, Archibald, Walter Wesley. 2 daughters: Frances and Lucindy. Martin married 2nd Nancy BRADLEY, 1 child James Vines. When the baby was about 5 months old, Martin was murdered by John Carr, at Sledge's Store at Love Lake La., in a case of mistaken identity. The 1870 census, taken just before Martin's death, 5 blacks are shown in the household: Marty, Cole, Lemuel, Filoma, Carslina. Hester was oldest of 4 children: Hester; May, buried Winchester Tenn.; Vester, buried Hebron Cem., Jackson Parish La.; Oneta, died age 4. Hester's great-grandad was Lewis, born 1805, Kentucky, had brother named Newton. Had an uncle who settled in Natchez. Lewis was a gunsmith and married Lucinda Miley HOBBS, 12 children. Hester's grandparents were Nancy Angelena BANNISTER and Jesse Dickerson. Jesse, born 1843, joined CSA army at age 17, Co C 28th La Inf under command of Gen. Richard Taylor. Hester married Lavada USREY in 1928. She was born 23 Oct 1913, died 4 June 1973. 3 children: Mildred, George William, Nancy. DISON-CORBITT Francis Eloise Corbitt born 30 Jan 1929, d/o Charles William Corbitt Sr. born 19 May 1885, died 8 Oct 1933, and Evie FAIR born 2 Nov 1896, died 10 June 1973. Sweat, born Barnwell District South Carolina, 12 March 1853, died 10 April 1907 Arcadia La. Married 29 January 1873 to James Alexander DORMON at her father's home, Briarwood Plantation, Natchitoches Parish La. James A. Dormon was born Chambers Co. Alabama, 4 November 1846, died Arcadia La. 30 June 1909. He was s/o James Monroe Dormon and Martha Jane SHERARD. His grandfather, Wiley Dormon and grandmother, Martha NEWBERRY moved from Georgia to Alabama 1817. His gr-grandfather Allen Dormon and all the men of his family were shipbuilders on the Ocmulgee River in Georgia. The SHERARDS came from Scotland immediately after the Revolution and settled in South Carolina. Children of James A. and Caroline Dormon: (1)James Laurence born 17 January 1874, lawyer, married Ruth MARSALIS of Arcadia. (2)Virginia Trotti born 10 February 1876, married Dr. G.F. Married Nannie MOORE of Heflin Alabama. She is descended from Ross family on her mother's side. (5)A.B. George born 6 January 1885, died 27 June 1914 Shreveport La. (6)Caroline Coroneos born 19 July 1888. Caroline was very prominent as an artist, writer, lecturer, naturalist. Much information is available on her. (7)Edwin Harry born 25 December 1891, died 21 October 1892 (8)Paul Gaspar born 18 February 1895, died 20 February 1901 DRIGGERS, Albert Albert Ivan Driggers born 2 March 1897 near Brown La. died March 1966. S/o Marion and Malinda Driggers. He married Ethel McCAIN of Ashland La. Children: Chester Albert born 1920, married Marion CORBITT; Oneld born 7 August 1921, Saline La., married Dorothy Delane HATHORN; Bernard married Betty SCOTT. DRIGGERS, Moses Born 25 June 1792, South Carolina. 1st wife's name unknown, but they had sons George, Berry and Milligan. Married 2nd Nancy Elizabeth TURNER of South Carolina ca 1837. They had 11 children who lived in La. Needham married Revie CLIFTON; Parthenia married William POLLOCK; Aaron married Christia Samantha JOHNSON. He was killed by a tornado near Prothro; Marion married Malinda Dale Robinette; Charles W. married Harriet Ellen CHRISTY; Roxanna; Minerva; Margaret Jane; Moses Manson married Nancy E. JONES. DRISKILL, James Christer Born in Hancock Co. Georgia 27 June 1817, came to Bienville Parish La. where he met and married Eugenia Isabelle WALKER, born 2 August 1823. They married 15 Dec 1840. 8 sons, 1 daughter. The family moved to Texas (Smith Co.) in 1850 where they lived for 12 years, then moved back to Bienville Parish. One son was killed in Civil War, one moved back to Texas and was lost track of, the daughter married and lived in Texas. She was born 1 July 1866, died June 1932. Collier Eugene born 14 December 1890, died 22 June 1965, married Martha Amanda SMART 22 December 1912. She was born 6 January 1892, died 27 October 1977. D/o Thomas Lucius SMART, born 9 September 1856, Alabama, died 7 April 1949, married Louisa Jane HARRIS on 13 November 1879. She was born 28 September 1858, died 8 November 1929. All of the above people buried in Oak Grove Cem. South of Arcadia La. Children of Collier and Amanda: Doyle Eugene married Ernestine GULLEY; Doris married S.W. LEACHMAN of Choudrant La.; Ruth married Jack A. DOYLE; Mary Nell married Ray Joseph PARR. DUTY, Richard Sr. Richard was brought from Alabama to Simsboro La. during the 1830s. Married Susan TUNLEY ca 1849. Children: Evaline married Richard WIMBERLY; Laura married John ASWELL; Alice married Amos HILL; Henetta married Willis McCOY; Sam Richard?, Joe? Methodists, built 1st C.M.E. church in area, also bought land and built 1st Black Baptist Church in Arcadia La. Built 1st Black school in Arcadia, gave land for St. Duty Cem. Susan died March 1871, Richard married 2ns Louisa BONNER. They had 5 children: Sally Duty WALKER, Ella Duty WILLIAMS, Fannie, Milton, Gains. Other children of Richard Sr. were: Hester Duty TOWERS, Laura Duty HILL, Mittie Duty GIPSON, George Duty. Richard Sr. died 1884 (information from grandson Milton L. Duty, P.O.
